Job summary

Optum, a global health tech leader, is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead design and evolution of data platforms for healthcare products in a hybrid Dublin/Letterkenny setup.

You will build scalable data solutions using Azure, Databricks/Spark, Snowflake, and dbt, while guiding governance, security, and multi-tenant patterns in healthcare data. Collaboration with product, AI, architecture, and security is essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with Azure data services and Databricks.
• Experience with Snowflake, dbt and Terraform in data projects.
• Design of multitenant data platforms with tenant isolation.
• Experience enabling Generative AI or conversational analytics on enterprise data.
• Knowledge of data cataloging, governance, and security controls for sensitive data.
• Healthcare industry experience is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on data engineering initiatives and set technical direction.
• Design and build scalable data products and platform components.
• Collaborate with product, AI, architecture, security, governance, and engineering teams.
• Establish standards for data modeling, quality, lineage, observability, and security.
• Create reference implementations and reusable engineering patterns.
• Provide mentorship and design guidance to engineers.
