The Principal AI Vision Systems Engineer role is a hands-on engineering leadership role, responsible for driving multiple projects that advance our business objectives through the strategic implementation of AI-based vision and technical systems. Working with our 3rd party AI automation vendor, you will support the design and lead the integration/troubleshooting of electrical and mechanical systems for industrial automation, with a strong emphasis on leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize manufacturing processes. Your work will include developing and deploying machine learning models, automating quality control, and enabling predictive maintenance, ensuring our operations remain at the forefront of innovation.
In addition, you will play a key role in a global IT system migration project, supporting the transition of legacy platforms. This will involve coordinating system testing, validation, and troubleshooting across multiple regions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and minimal disruption to business operations.
As a technical leader, you will collaborate across teams to champion AI adoption, deliver measurable improvements in efficiency and reliability, and support the seamless integration of advanced digital solutions into our manufacturing environment.
Duties and responsibilities
Project & Technical Leadership
- Expedite, manage, and coordinate interrelated systems activities across functions, within the constraints of human and financial resources and changing priorities.
- Participate in identifying and planning tasks, activities, and resourcing needs related to AI projects within global manufacturing network.
- Successfully influences stakeholders and cross-functional team members within projects.
- Initiates, develops and leads technical feasibility analysis for products or subsystems; translates customer/user needs to project needs.
- Proposes and drives solutions to complex technical problems that are ambiguous and diverse in scope.
- Drives adherence to FDA, ISO and IEC design control procedures, regulations and standards.
AI, Software & Systems Integration
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure seamless application deployments and system reliability.
- Leverage AI to eliminate time spent on common tasks and boilerplate code.
- Drive efficiency and standardization in the technologies, tools and techniques used by the team.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, including plants, outside vendors and global teams to develop aligned goals and shared commitments.
- Drives technical integration by collaborating with cross functional teams to establish connectivity between other products and third-party software(s).
- Implements business requirements by defining application interfaces based on needs identified and communicates specification with the cross functional team and integration partners.
- Works with a cross-functional team to resolve conflicts and drives decision making by working closely with plants, and global teams.
- Collaborate with IT and operation teams for successful deployment and monitoring of AI applications.
- Coordinates and drives execution of integration activities with distributed global manufacturing network.
Hardware Management & Logistics
- Assemble, configure, and test edge devices for deployment (Jetson devices, servers, cameras, sensors, etc.).
- Build relationships with hardware partners and systems integrators to streamline sourcing and coordinate field support.
- Lead on-site device installations, hardware set-up, and system validation.
- Perform physical mounting, sensor alignment, cabling, and PoE configuration.
- Ensure proper connectivity (RTSP, VPN, SSH) and integration with software.
System Configuration & Support
- Manage network setup on Linux-based edge devices (interface binding, static IPs, DHCP config).
Education and experience:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, Software Engineering or similar and 8 + years of product development experience.
- Professional experience in Python and shell.
- 2+ years in Machine Learning and production deployment of ML models.
- Familiarity with networking, DNS and storage concepts.A solution mindset, and enthusiastic, strong, technical generalist
- Proven project management experience as it relates to delivery timelines and commitments
- Experience integrating with third party solutions
- Experience with source control tools like Git or Bitbucket.
- Familiarity with common data processing and computer vision frameworks (e.g., OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Familiar with NoSQL and SQL databases, Serverless
- Familiar with object detection, classification, segmentation, YOLO, VLMs, and SAM
- Hands-on hardware experience: You’ve worked with embedded devices (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson), industrial cameras, or similar hardware in field deployments
- Computer vision experience: Familiarity with computer vision inference pipelines
- Able to write scripts to automate routine tasks or customize device behavior
- Linux and Networking Proficiency: Comfortable with system-level debugging, interface configuration, and tools.
- Experience with PoE cameras (e.g., Basler, Lucid Vision) or IP camera configuration.
