Job summary

The Photonic Devices group at Tyndall National Institute is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to develop active components and their integration in compact photonic circuits. A key focus is Micro-Transfer Printing (MTP), which Tyndall has pioneered, supported by leading fabrication and metrology facilities.

You will contribute to device design, fabrication, integration and characterisation, collaborating across teams and publishing in IEEE/Optica journals.

Qualifications

• PhD degree in Physics, Communications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant knowledge of compound semiconductor devices and optical waveguides.
• More than 2 years of experience in processing or measurement of these materials for photonic devices.
• Strong knowledge of photonic device design, processing, integration and characterisation.
• Proven report writing for research projects and publications in IEEE/Optica.
• Publications in IEEE/Optica journals and conference publications.

Responsibilities

• Simulation of photonic structures and devices.
• Design robust process flows for fabrication of compound semiconductor based photonic devices.
• Mask design and layout.
• Complete high quality device fabrication with in-line testing and detailed evaluation of steps.
• Characterising the electro-optic performance of the devices.
• Disseminate research achievements through publications and conferences.
• Participate in mentoring activities within the group.
• Engage in Education and Public Engagement activities.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems, Health and Safety standards, and other regulations.
• Carry out additional duties within the post scope.
