Qualifications

Job description

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for successfully leading the delivery of accurate, compliant and timely payroll services across multiple jurisdictions, outside of North America, within Glanbia. The role has overall accountability for payroll operations, ensuring compliance with local legislative and regulatory requirements while driving operational excellence, risk management and continuous improvement.

Reporting into the Business Services Director, the Payroll Manager will lead and develop a team of Payroll Specialists, providing direction, coaching and support to ensure high levels of performance and service delivery. The role requires strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with responsibility for engaging, influencing and guiding key stakeholders across HR, Finance, employees, external providers and regulatory bodies.

The Payroll Manager will act as a subject matter expert on payroll processes, controls and compliance, leading payroll-related projects, supporting audits, driving system optimisation and implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, strengthen governance and support the evolving needs of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of Payroll Specialists through regular team meetings, one-to-one discussions, performance reviews and objective-setting, ensuring delivery of KPIs, service standards and individual development goals.
  • Oversee the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of multi-jurisdiction payroll services across Glanbia, ensuring adherence to local legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage end-to-end payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions, including data collection, validation, calculations, approvals, reconciliations, variance analysis and final sign-off.
  • Direct and guide engagement with Finance teams to ensure accurate payroll journals, general ledger reconciliations and timely completion of month-end activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll legislation, statutory obligations, tax reporting requirements and year-end processes across all countries within scope.
  • Monitor regulatory developments across relevant jurisdictions and lead the implementation of required changes to payroll processes, controls and systems.
  • Lead payroll support for internal and external audits, coordinating documentation requests, managing stakeholder engagement and driving remediation activities where required.
  • Deliver payroll service targets, proactively manage payroll issues and direct engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely resolution and effective service delivery.
  • Champion payroll-related projects, system enhancements and operational initiatives, ensuring successful delivery and stakeholder alignment.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries, providing guidance and resolution to employees, managers and key business stakeholders.
  • Maintain and optimise payroll systems to support operational excellence, compliance and scalability across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Provide expert payroll advice and guidance to HR, Finance, managers and employees, influencing decision-making and promoting best practice.
  • Lead and coordinate communication of payroll schedules, process changes, policy updates and statutory developments to relevant stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify payroll risks and control gaps, implementing mitigation strategies and ensuring robust governance processes are maintained.
  • Maintain business continuity and contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted payroll operations and service delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, improve stakeholder experience and deliver measurable business benefits.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability and operational excellence within the payroll team.
  • Undertake additional duties, projects and business-related activities as required
The skills you will bring to the team
  • 5+ years' payroll management experience, including experience leading payroll operations within a multi-jurisdictional, process-driven environment.
  • Proven people leadership experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead, develop and motivate teams in a fast-paced, dynamic and changing environment.
  • Relevant payroll related qualification i.e. IPASS
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, controls and governance.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Tax, IT and external service providers to deliver operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated experience of driving process improvement.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver against deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with a track record of building effective relationships and influencing internal and external partners.
  • Strong systems capability, including experience with enterprise payroll solutions.
  • Structured problem solver with excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex payroll matters into clear business recommendations.
