Job summary

Irish Wheelchair Association in Arklow is inviting applications for a part-time Young Adult Support Worker (16 hours per week) on a fixed-term contract. The role supports School Leavers Service participants with physical disabilities, delivering workshops, personal development activities and social programmes within a person-centred approach.

You will liaise with Service Officers and Centre Coordinators to enable safe transport, personal care support and community engagement while maintaining

Qualifications

• QQI Level 5 Care Support (Major Award – 8 Modules) is essential.
• QQI Major Awards relevant to IWA include Community & Health Services, Health Service Skills and Health Care Support.
• Youth Work experience is beneficial.
• A full Category B driving licence is required.
• Experience developing and delivering projects or programmes.
• Experience working with people with disabilities.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and transport safety standards.
• Good organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Support Service Manager and Support Officers to implement group workshops and activities.
• Support individual young adults through Personal Goals work.
• Assist with safe transportation in line with Transport Handbook guidelines.
• Assist with personal care and daily living as identified.
• Accompany and support outings, social trips and holidays.
• Prepare and maintain records for the service.
• Undertake training as directed by the Service Manager/Support Officers.
• Ensure safeguarding policies are adhered to.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.
