Job summary

Inland Fisheries Ireland is seeking a Fisheries Officer to join the Carrick on Suir team, protecting, managing and conserving Ireland's inland fisheries and sea angling resources.

The role focuses on enforcement of the Fisheries Acts, Water Pollution Acts and related directives, patrolling waters, inspecting licences, and advising the public. This is an outdoors role with weekend/evening work and close collaboration with local staff and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or recognised equivalent.
  • Full Category B driving licence valid in Ireland.
  • No convictions under Irish Fisheries Legislation; eligible to work in the State.
  • Fluent English – spoken and written.
  • Good computer skills including MS Office.
  • Reside within 60 mins drive of base location; competent on water (sea, lakes, rivers).
  • Demonstrates a passion for promoting, protecting and conserving natural resources.
  • Experience in a similar environment is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol lakes, rivers, sea, coast and estuaries to check for illegal fishing.
  • Inspect licence holders and recreational anglers for licences and compliance.
  • Enforce bye-laws and regulations; issue Fixed Penalty Notices when appropriate.
  • Assist with habitat improvement schemes and infrastructure development.
  • Maintain vehicles, boats and surveillance equipment.
