Our multidisciplinary team (having a core understanding of traditional stick build construction) have delivered on several “Product Modules” for clients based on the simple ideal of “plug and play”; whereby they have taken a Client BOD to fully tested and commissioned CE / UKCA Marked products ready for site infrastructure integration.
Job Title- Manufacturing Commissioning (Cx) Manager
Job Summary
The Manufacturing Commissioning (Cx) Manager is responsible for leading, managing, and executing the commissioning process for mechanical and electrical (M&E) modular products and packaged skids within our manufacturing facility.
In this key client-facing role, they will act as the primary liaison between the internal manufacturing/engineering teams, client representatives, and specialist equipment vendors. Their core objective is to drive the offsite commissioning lifecycle from initial script development to complete Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), ensuring all equipment and skids achieve i3 Tag Status (Factory Pre-Commissioning / Functional Completion) prior to dispatch.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Client Liaison & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the primary technical interface for the Client’s Commissioning and Engineering teams across all Mechanical and Electrical disciplines.
- Establish clear communication channels regarding commissioning schedules, testing protocols, witness testing, and i3 readiness.
- Manage client expectations and lead weekly/daily Cx progress updates, sign-off meetings, and quality walkthroughs.
- Commissioning Script & Procedure Development
- Collaborate with client representatives, design engineers, and equipment vendors to author, review, and finalise detailed Commissioning Scripts, Test Packs (i1–i3), and Functional Performance Tests (FPT).
- Ensure all scripts strictly align with project specifications, industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, BSRIA), client standards, and safety guidelines.
- Implement structured change-control processes for script revisions during factory testing.
- Vendor Management & Factory Execution
- Supervise and coordinate specialist equipment vendors (OEMs), control system integrators, and third-party testers within the manufacturing facility.
- Schedule vendor site visits and manage their work scope to ensure timely execution of vendor-led Cx tasks.
- Oversee pre-energisation checks, static testing, loop testing, and dynamic functional testing of integrated skids.
- Milestone Achievement & Quality Assurance (i3 Tag Status)
- Drive the completion of all pre-commissioning and factory functional testing required to formally achieve i3 Tag Status prior to dispatch.
- Maintain a rigorous punch-listing / defect-management log, ensuring all factory-identified issues are cleared before skid handover and transport.
- Ensure full traceability and sign-off of all test sheets, calibration certificates, and i3 handover documentation packages.
- Health, Safety & Environmental
- Ensure all offsite commissioning activities comply with Jones Engineering’s EHS protocols, including safe isolation procedures (LOTO), energization permits, and dynamic risk assessments.
Qualifications
Education: Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, or Automation Engineering (or equivalent trade background with extensive managerial experience).
Experience: 5+ years of commissioning experience within high-tech sectors (Data Centres, Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences, or Heavy Industrial).
Offsite/Modular Expertise: Proven experience in offsite manufacturing, skid assembly, or packaged equipment testing.
Technical Knowledge: Strong dual-discipline understanding (Mechanical HVAC, Hydraulics, Electrical Power Distribution, BMS/Controls, PLC, and Instrumentation).
Cx Standards: Solid familiarity with commissioning levels/milestones (i1 to i5 tag structures or Level 1–5 Cx frameworks).
Essential Skills & Competencies Client Facing: Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a track record of building trust with client Cx agents.
Technical Writing: Exceptional ability to write clear, methodical commissioning scripts and testing documentation.
Leadership & Organisation: Strong vendor-management skills with the ability to maintain schedule discipline within a busy manufacturing plant.
Problem Solving: Quick-thinking diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities during dynamic testing phases.
