Responsibilities
- Contribute to the scientific management of Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic X-ray services
- Provide support for the therapeutic and diagnostic applications of radioisotopes within radiological services
- Support the development and implementation of routine quality assurance programmes for all imaging equipment
- Perform measurement, analysis, and interpretation of quality assurance data
- Provide scientific and technical support to various radiology service areas
- Participate in the safe management and operation of imaging and associated equipment
- Assist in identifying equipment faults and take appropriate action when required
- Support the commissioning and acceptance of new equipment within the Radiology department
- Participate in the planning and delivery of in-house education and training programmes for hospital staff
- Actively engage in continuing professional development activities
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Medical Physics services within the hospital
- Support the introduction and development of new Medical Physics services and initiatives
- Keep up to date with current developments, technologies, and best practices within the field of Medical Physics
- Participate in staff development and relevant in-service training programmes
- Undertake additional duties and training as requested by the Head of Radiology to maintain the quality and effectiveness of Medical Physics services
- Carry out other duties appropriate to the role as assigned
Requirements
- Hold a recognised Honours Degree in Physics
- Hold a recognised postgraduate qualification in Medical Physics, such as an MSc or PhD
- Significant contribution to research or professional activities may be considered
- Previous experience in Diagnostic Imaging is desirable
- Previous experience in Nuclear Medicine is desirable
- Eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body such as the Irish Association of Medical Physicists (IAPM)
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to manage clinical and non-clinical situations under the supervision of an MPE and/or RPA
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong sense of responsibility and accountability
- Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
- Evidence of ongoing professional development is desirable
