Job summary

Arup is offering a work placement for Mechanical Engineering students in Dublin. You will work with Building Services engineers on modelling, design development in Revit, and decarbonisation strategies for diverse building projects.

The role supports sustainable design through operation efficiency and renewables, with site visits to monitor progress and ensure quality. Enrolled in a related Bachelor’s or Master’s degree is required.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering or Building Services Engineering (NFQ Level 8/9).
• Strong interest in sustainable building design and decarbonisation strategies.

Responsibilities

• Undertake Thermal and Building Regulation Compliance modelling using IESVE or similar software.
• Use Revit to develop designs, tender and contract information.
• Prepare decarbonisation strategies for buildings focusing on operational efficiency and renewable energy adoption.
• Analyse new technologies for inclusion in projects to ensure sustainable, robust designs.
• Visit construction sites to review progress and monitor installation quality.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Engineer work placement student at Arup, you will be working closely with experienced Building Services engineers to:

• Undertake Thermal and Building Regulation Compliance modelling using IESVE or other similar software.
• Use of Revit to develop designs and tender and contract information.
• Prepare and input to decarbonisation strategies for buildings with respect to both operational efficiency and adoption of renewable energy technologies.
• Carry out analysis ofnew technologiesand how they can be incorporated into our projects to ensure a sustainable and robust design.
• Visit construction sites to review progress andmonitorthe quality of installation works.

Our team are involved in a wide range of sectors including education,commercial, Science & Industryand healthcare. Some of ourrecentprojects include the refurbishmentand extensionof the Crawford Art Gallery, Forensic ScienceIrelandLaboratories,wealso work with many of the leadingpharmaceuticaland medical devicecompanies deliveringproduction,lab and admin facilities.

We deliver critical healthcare facilitiesthroughoutIreland and abroad. We deliver international projects, workingwith Arup colleagues in countries throughoutEurope.

We have successfully delivered on exciting projects in UCC (Boole Library, Glucksman Art Gallery and Aula Maxima) and MTU (School of Catering, School of Interior Design and Architectural Technology, Zero2020 Retrofit of Block B, Nimbus micro-grid test bed).
