Job summary

Arup in Dublin invites talented Building Services, Electrical and Mechanical engineering students to join a student work placement programme. You will work with experienced engineers on real projects and gain hands-on experience while accessing learning sessions on local and international projects.

You will develop through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to decarbonisation strategies, and advance 3D modeling in Revit MEP.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
• Interest in sustainable design and shown growth mindset.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with senior Building Services engineers on real projects.
• Contribute to decarbonisation strategies for buildings.
• Assist design of building service systems (ventilation, heating/cooling, electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, earthing).
• Develop 3D design models using Revit MEP.
• Collaborate with architects and other disciplines in design meetings.

The Opportunity

We are seeking talented Building Services engineering, Electrical engineering and Mechanical engineering students to join our teams in Dublin and Cork on a student work placement programme. We look for students who are keen to gain real professional experience and put their studies into practice, and who have ahave a growth mindset, are eager to learn and who have an enthusiasm for a career in sustainable building design.

You will work alongside skilled professionals and contribute to the success of real projects. You will also have access to learning sessions with technical experts within your team, working on local and international projects and all kinds of company social events.

Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines and we offer our clients a broad spectrum of expertise and consulting services in, but not limited to, the following types of developments: Commercial Real Estate developments, Science and Industry, Pharmaceutical, Education, Healthcare, Transport projects, including airports and rail stations, Sports Facilities and Stadia, Museums and Art galleries and Data Centres.

Some of our current projects of note include the UniversityCollege Dublin Science Buildings and Centre for Learning, Trinity College Dublin E3 Learning Foundry and Old Library Renovation the National Children’s Hospital, the National Maternity Hospital, the Crawford Art Gallery, the National Velodrome and Badminton Centre and Cricket Centre and several large-scale international Data Centres.

• Be working closely with experienced Building Services engineers who will guide you through the design and consulting work we carry out.
• Prepare and input to decarbonisation strategies for buildings with respect to both operational efficiency and adoption of renewable energy technologies.
• Carry out analysis of new technologies and how they can be incorporated into our projects to ensure a sustainable and robust design.
• Assist project teams with the design of a range of building service systems (e.g. ventilation, heating and cooling, energy modelling, electrical distribution, artificial lighting, fire detection, security systems, earthing and lightning protection systems).
• Technical report writing.
• Developing design in 3D models using Revit MEP.
• Working with Architects, Fire Engineers & other disciplines within Arup to develop designs.
• Co-ordinating building services systems as part of design meetings, site visits, presentations and workshops.
• Gain exposure to real world professional environments and have the opportunity to put your course learnings into practice.
