Job summary

Morgan McKinley in Cork is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to take projects from concept to manufacture within a regulated pharmaceutical and life sciences environment.

The role requires strong 3D CAD proficiency (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor) and experience in producing GA drawings, fabrication drawings, and BOMs. You will work with customers, production teams and project stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical design of machinery, equipment, or engineered systems.
  • Experience producing GA drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal design and design-for-manufacture principles.

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer requirements into production-ready mechanical designs.
  • Produce detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software.
  • Develop GA, fabrication, and assembly drawings with BOMs.
  • Support full design lifecycle from concept through fabrication and delivery.
  • Act as design SME and provide technical support to fabrication teams.
  • Participate in design reviews and customer approvals for drawings and docs.
  • Collaborate with project management, procurement, automation, quality and manufacturing.
  • Manage design changes and respond to variation requests.
  • Assist with FAT/SAT preparation and execution if required.

Mechanical Design Engineer

An established engineering company serving the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing team in Cork.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically minded engineer who enjoys taking projects from concept through to manufacture and working closely with customers, production teams, and project stakeholders in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate customer requirements and user specifications into production-ready mechanical designs.
  • Produce detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD software such as Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Develop general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly documentation, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Support projects throughout the full design lifecycle, from concept design through fabrication, assembly, FAT and final delivery.
  • Act as the mechanical design subject matter expert, providing technical support to fabrication and assembly teams.
  • Participate in design reviews and support customer approval processes for drawings and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with project management, procurement, automation, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage design changes and support variation requests throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist with FAT/SAT preparation and execution where required.
Key Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in mechanical design of machinery, equipment, or engineered systems.
  • Strong 3D CAD experience using Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar.
  • Experience producing manufacturing documentation including GA drawings, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and BOMs.
  • Good understanding of sheet metal design, fabricated assemblies, and design-for-manufacture principles.
  • Experience supporting fabrication, machining, or assembly teams during project execution.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.
Desirable Experience
  • Pharmaceutical, life sciences, medical device, food, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of GMP and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Experience with FAT/SAT activities.
  • Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems.
  • Understanding of machine safety standards, CE marking, ATEX, or UL requirements.
