Job description

CREGG are looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join a leading Medical Device Company in Limerick. The successful candidate will design the jigs, fixtures, gauges and tooling that enable high-quality, efficient manufacturing.

You’ll work closely with Process Operations, NPD, Manufacturing and Quality Engineering to turn engineering concepts into practical, production-ready tooling. You’ll solve design and manufacturing challenges, create detailed CAD designs and drawings, and help move components from development into production.

What you’ll do
  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures, gauges and production tooling using 2D/3D parametric CAD.
  • Translate engineering requirements into detailed, manufacturing-ready CAD models, assemblies and drawings.
  • Work with engineers to resolve design challenges and improve DFM, manufacturability, safety and reliability.
  • Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis and drawing standards to ensure robust designs.
  • Review designs, identify potential issues and recommend practical improvements.
  • Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and design validation activities.
  • Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, quality and external suppliers to deliver tooling projects.
  • Use rapid prototyping, 3D printing and CNC machining where appropriate to validate designs.
  • Present design proposals and communicate technical solutions to stakeholders.
What you’ll bring
  • 5+ years of relevant design/engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or similar CAD/PDM systems.
  • Proven experience designing tools, jigs, fixtures or gauges, ideally for a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, ASME Y14.5, DFM and manufacturing processes such as machining and molding.
  • Good knowledge of materials and their properties.
  • Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively across functions.
  • High attention to detail and a practical, hands‑on approach to design.
Nice to have
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience with advanced CAD strategies such as Top-Down Design, Master Models, Multi-Body or Sheet Metal.
  • Electrical drawing/design experience.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of CE marking and European safety/environmental requirements.
