Job summary

XOCEAN is seeking a geophysical data specialist to support remote data processing of side-scan sonar, magnetometer and SBP datasets for ocean-survey projects. You will produce interpretations and high-quality reports from remote locations across Ireland, the UK and Australia.

Required qualifications include a Geoscience or Geophysics degree, 3+ years of marine processing experience and proficiency with Oasis Montaj, QGIS and related software.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geoscience or Geophysics is required.
• 3+ years marine survey processing experience.
• Experience with QGIS, Moga Seaview, DUG Insight, Oasis Montaj and Chesapeake SonarWiz.
• Proficient coding/scripting in Python, C/C++, MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Remote data processing of Side-scan Sonar, Magnetometer & Innomar SBP datasets.
• Magnetometer data processing and QC in Oasis Montaj, including scripting.
• SBP processing and interpretation with denoising and navigation corrections.
• Side scan sonar data processing including seabed interpretation and mosaic production.
• Creation and QC of final deliverables and client reporting.

About XOCEAN

XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed a marine robotic system known as an Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV).

Overview

Responsible for geophysical data collection, processing, interpretation and reporting.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

• Remote data processing of Side-scan Sonar, Magnetometer & Innomar SBP datasets.
• Magnetometer data processing and QC in Oasis Montaj, to include script editing and management
• Shallow SBP (Innomar) processing and interpretation - including denoising and navigation corrections, if required.
• Side scan sonar data processing including seabed picking, interpretation, production of mosaic and seabed features.
• Creation and QC of final deliverables to a high standard.
• Real-time quality control – work with the online surveying team to monitor the data being captured using online and offline survey tools.
• Report writing and client interaction.

On occasion this role may involve:

• Support with bathymetry data acquisition and processing.
• Remote data acquisition and processing of UAV and deeper seismic sensors.
• Implementing, maintaining, managing and updating all standard operating procedures and processes appropriate to the role.
• Managing and maintaining Quality, Environment and Health and Safety standards including update, implementation and management of ISO processes as appropriate to the role.

Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and Experience

• Degree in Geoscience or Geophysics.
• Processing experience of Side-scan Sonar, & Innomar/SBP and Marine magnetometer datasets.
• Experience in 2 or more of QGIS, Moga Seaview, DUG Insight, Oasis Montaj and Chesapeake SonarWiz processing software packages.
• 3+ years Marine Survey Processing Experience.
• Enthusiastic, positive and proactive nature with a keen attention to detail.
• Coding and scripting experience to include Python, C/C++, MATLAB.
• Acquisition experience of Side-scan Sonar, & Innomar/SBP and Marine magnetometer datasets.
• Experience in bathymetry data acquisition and processing.
• Experience of marine survey data acquisition software (e.g. QINSy, Qimera, EIVA Beamworx etc).
• ARC GIS and AutoCad knowledge would be an advantage.
