Job summary

Hiab in Dundalk, Ireland, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to ensure changes to production lines, materials, and processes are managed without disrupting yield, quality, or regulatory compliance. The role requires strong problem solving, mechanical, design, and IT skills and will be based fully on site.

You will work with the Manufacturing Engineering Team to improve process efficiency, implement ECOs and NPD into manufacturing, establish JIT processes, manage BOMs and master data, and

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience within Manufacturing/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering.
  • Degree level in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrics/Electronics, Assembly work, Hydraulics, Assembly Instructions and Safe working practices.
  • Working Knowledge of CAD, with examples of work completed.
  • Working knowledge in using ERP systems, BOM Management and logistics forecast and planning systems.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative to develop solutions using best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset; Lean Sigma tools/methodologies preferred.
  • Learns quickly when facing new problems and embraces change.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering Team to improve efficiency in manufacturing processes.
  • Implement ECOs or New Product Development into the manufacturing environment.
  • Establish JIT processes to reduce work in progress.
  • Manage new part configurations, open production orders, routing, and master data updates.
  • Support ECO processes, ensuring stock disposition, product configuration, and BOM verification.
  • Ensure risk assessments are carried out and maintained.
  • Investigate LTIs, near misses, and other safety incidents.
  • Be accountable for safety incidents within manufacturing engineering.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for safe working practices.
  • Design and develop transport stillages and packaging to maximize efficiency and protect products.
  • Use CAD to create designs and specs for stillages, containers, and material handling equipment.
  • Analyze material flow to identify efficiency, ergonomics, and safety improvements.
  • Evaluate materials and processes for stillages and packaging considering cost and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering (R&D), Purchasing, and Quality.
  • Communicate improvement initiatives and metrics to stakeholders.

Your mission

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will ensure that changes to production lines, materials, and processes are well-managed and don't disrupt goals such as yield, product quality, or adherence to regulations. This role requires strong problem-solving, mechanical, design, and IT skills, along with a knowledge of manufacturing processes and continuous improvement techniques. This role also requires strong interpersonal skills to interact with multiple departments within the organisation. This position is based in Dundalk, Ireland and is fully on site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Working with the Manufacturing Engineering Team to ensure improved efficiency in our Manufacturing Processes
  • Responsible for the implementation of Engineering Change Orders or New Product Development into the manufacturing environment
  • Establish processes that utilise the use of JIT (Just In Time) reducing work in progress throughout the enterprise
  • Responsible new part configuration and set-up, management of open production orders, manufacturing routing and master data management and assembly instruction updates
  • Support the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process, ensuring optimal stock disposition, product configuration, and BOM verification
  • Ensuring all risk assessments are carried out thoroughly and maintained effectively
  • Supporting the investigation of LTI, near misses and other safety incidents
  • Accountable for all safety incidents within manufacturing engineering
  • Continuously work on engineering solutions to reduce risk in the production processes
  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures within the A.I’s that encompass safe working practices
  • Design and develop innovative transport stillages and packaging solutions to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and protect products during transit and storage
  • Utilize CAD software to create detailed designs and specifications for stillages, containers, and other material handling equipment
  • Analyze material flow and handling processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, ergonomics, and safety
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for stillages and packaging, considering cost, durability, and sustainability.
  • Build strong working relationships with multiple departments, including Production, Engineering(RnD), Purchasing, and Quality
  • Effectively communicate improvement initiatives, and performance metrics to stakeholders, with the goal to Improve management of inventory
  • levels and maintain accurate stocking levels and BOM’s
  • Develop and document procedures to minimize the environmental impact of material movement and transportation.
What We Are Looking For
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience working within an Manufacturing/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering
  • Degree level in Mechanical / Industrial Engineering
  • Knowledge and understanding of Mechanical, Electrics/Electronics, Assembly work, Hydraulics, Assembly Instructions and Safe working practices
  • Working Knowledge of CAD, with Examples of work completed
  • Working knowledge in using ERP systems, BOM Management and logistics forecast and planning systems
  • Ability to work on your own initiative to develop solutions to solve problems using best practices problem solving methodologies
  • Continuous Improvement Mindset. Experience in Change Management preferable using Lean Sigma tools and methodologies
  • Learns quickly when facing new problems; a relentless and versatile learner; open to change; strives for continuous improvement of self and processes.
