Job summary

Mercor is seeking a native Malayalam speaker to annotate and transcribe pages for a dataset project. You will identify and bound every meaningful region, assign types and reading order, and ensure exact Malayalam transcription of all text, including handwritten content.

You will work with real documents featuring handwriting and multi-column layouts, verify legibility, record metadata, and participate in peer review to maintain high accuracy.

Qualifications

• Native Malayalam speaker with full command of the script and its conjunct forms
• Experience with document annotation, transcription, localization, proofreading or related tasks
• Exact character-level accuracy is required; diacritics must be correct and consistent

Responsibilities

• Open and verify Malayalam pages for annotation
• Identify and bound every meaningful region (title, heading, paragraph, list, table, diagram, caption, formula, question, answer field) and assign type and reading order
• Record relationships by linking regions to parent figures or tables
• Transcribe faithfully in Malayalam script, flag any illegible regions
• Capture page metadata (language, document type, source, page dimensions, handwriting/handwritten flags)
• Review colleagues' work to ensure accuracy on first pass
