Job summary

OCL Laundry Services Ltd in Ballinrobe, County Mayo, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join a large, modern industrial laundry. You will maintain high-volume processing equipment, work with Production and Shift Management, and support plant availability and safety.

The role requires strong electrical and mechanical maintenance experience, fault-finding skills, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical qualification (City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
• 3+ years’ experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance in a large industrial/manufacturing environment.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good mechanical maintenance experience across industrial machinery.
• Working knowledge of processing systems including boiler house, PLCs, sensors, control systems and remote I/O.

• Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical and control faults safely.

Maintenance Technician

The Role

Working within a large, modern industrial laundry environment, you will join an established and experienced Maintenance Team responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of a high-volume processing facility.

Our laundry operation is continually developing and investing in modern technology and equipment. As a key member of the Maintenance Team, you will work closely with Production and Shift Management to ensure a responsive and effective maintenance service is provided, maximising plant availability, minimising downtime and supporting the consistent production of high-quality linen.

The successful candidate will have strong electrical and mechanical maintenance experience, excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills, and the ability to work confidently both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across a wide range of industrial laundry plant and equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical and control system faults efficiently and safely.
• Work closely with Production and Shift Management to prioritise maintenance requirements and minimise operational disruption.
• Identify opportunities for preventative maintenance and continuous improvement to improve equipment reliability and reduce costly breakdowns.
• Carry out inspections, servicing and repairs in accordance with planned maintenance schedules.
• Assist with the installation, commissioning and integration of new machinery and equipment as part of ongoing investment and plant upgrades.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity, reliability, efficiency and equipment performance.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, faults, repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Provide technical support to production teams where required.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, health & safety requirements and relevant legislation.
• Comply with the company’s quality, environmental and health & safety management systems.
• Respond effectively to breakdowns and operational issues, particularly within a high-volume, time-critical production environment.

Essential Criteria

• Recognised electrical qualification, such as City & Guilds Level 3 or above, NVQ Level 3, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance within a large industrial, manufacturing or process environment.
• Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Good mechanical maintenance experience, with the ability to work across a wide range of industrial machinery.
• Working knowledge of industrial processing systems, including boiler house equipment, PLCs, sensors, control systems and remote I/O.
• Ability to diagnose faults quickly and effectively and work under pressure in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and make sound decisions when dealing with breakdowns.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering and Management teams.
• Strong commitment to health & safety and safe working practices.
• Flexibility regarding working hours, including night shifts and participation in a shift-based maintenance operation.
• Good IT literacy, including practical experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

Desirable Experience

• Previous experience working within a large-scale industrial laundry or high volume processing environment
• Experience working with Jensen, Lavatec & WSP is advantageous but not essential
• Experience with high-volume continuous-process production equipment.
• Experience with automated laundry equipment, conveyors, ironers, dryers, washers, folders and associated processing machinery.
• Experience with PLC-controlled machinery, variable speed drives, sensors and automated control systems.
• Experience contributing to preventative maintenance programmes and continuous improvement projects.
