Duties and Responsibilities of the Role
Operational & Property Maintenance
- Supervise daily maintenance operations across the hotel, including guest bedrooms, public areas, restaurants, leisure facilities, offices, and back-of-house areas.
- Ensure the hotel's facilities are maintained to a high-quality standard in line with a 4-star luxury environment.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests, ensuring minimal disruption to guests and operations.
- Carry out routine inspections and identify defects, hazards, and repair needs.
- Support in maintaining critical systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, heating, lighting, and general building fabric.
- Ensure all repairs are completed to a high standard, with attention to detail and presentation.
Preventative Maintenance & Compliance
- Support the implementation of a preventative maintenance program to reduce breakdowns and improve operational efficiency.
- Assist in monitoring statutory compliance requirements such as fire safety systems, emergency lighting, water hygiene, and equipment servicing.
- Ensure maintenance records and documentation are updated accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure all works comply with relevant health & safety legislation and hotel procedures.
Team Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate the maintenance team to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and to standard.
- Allocate daily work schedules and prioritise tasks based on business needs and operational requirements.
- Provide training, coaching, and support to maintenance staff, ensuring consistent performance and safe working practices.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a high level of professionalism within the department.
Contractor & Supplier Management
- Liaise with external contractors and service providers to ensure work is completed in line with hotel standards and deadlines.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with hotel policies and safety procedures.
- Assist with ordering, stock control, and managing maintenance supplies and equipment.
Guest Service & Departmental Communication
- Ensure maintenance work is carried out with discretion and minimal impact on guests.
- Maintain a strong service culture by responding professionally to guest-related maintenance issues.
- Communicate effectively with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and other departments regarding repairs, room status, and maintenance scheduling.
- Support management in planning maintenance works during low-occupancy periods where possible.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with the hotel's health & safety procedures at all times.
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of tools, chemicals, and equipment.
- Promote a proactive approach to safety and maintenance standards across the property.
Requirements for the role
- Previous experience in a maintenance role within a hotel, resort, or similar hospitality environment is essential.
- Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
- Trade qualification (Electrical / Plumbing / Mechanical) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems is beneficial.
- Understanding of compliance standards (fire safety, water hygiene, emergency systems) is desirable.
- Flexibility required, including weekends and public holidays depending on operational requirements.
- On-call availability may be required for emergencies.
- Physically active role requiring lifting, climbing, and manual handling.
