Job summary

Acuity Inc. is seeking a Lead Engineer (AI and Python) to influence technical direction and guide a high-impact AI engineering team. You will write production code, help define architecture, and shape outcomes alongside business and technical stakeholders.

You will design cloud-native, container-first services for enterprise use, mentor engineers, and help build scalable platforms while maintaining strong engineering practices and security.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven technical leadership in delivery teams, mentoring engineers, and setting engineering direction.
• Strong Python skills with maintainable OOP design, typing, async programming, and service-layer development (FastAPI preferred).
• Experience designing and building REST APIs with reliability, observability, and performance.
• Prior cloud experience with at least one hyperscaler (Azure preferred).
• Container experience including packaging, running, and debugging containerised services across environments.
• Kubernetes experience with deploying and operating services in a cluster.
• Experience with modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Azure DevOps).
• Strong quality mindset including testing (PyTest) and secure build/deploy practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of a high-impact AI engineering team, staying hands-on and setting the pace through example.
• Design and deliver cloud-native, container-first services that scale for enterprise use.
• Partner with architects and stakeholders to shape architecture and translate strategy into practical engineering decisions.
• Take AI capabilities from PoCs to production deployments with secure, reliable systems.
• Drive engineering practices across code quality, CI/CD, containerisation, Kubernetes, and cloud operations.
• Guide trade-offs prioritising innovation with long-term platform health.
• Play a central role in hiring and onboarding to build a high-calibre team.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and pair programming for growth and ownership.
• Stay current with AI and cloud technologies and introduce value-add approaches.
