Job summary

Ability West seeks an Instructor to work in a day service in Galway City. The role involves delivering instruction across arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living areas, tailored to each person’s needs. A full manual driving license is required, and work is on-site in Galway.

You will join a dedicated team, supporting people with intellectual disabilities and autism to live their best life through person-centred activities and community integration.

Qualifications

• Experience in teaching people with intellectual disabilities.
• Full manual driving license.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction in areas such as arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living skills based on individuals' preferences and abilities.
• Instruct on courses covering specific skills, social development, personal care and community integration.
• Collaborate as part of a team with flexible duties that may overlap with others.
• Establish respectful, equal relationships with people we support to promote their autonomy and wellbeing.
• Support people who can present with behaviours that challenge.
• Instruct across all programmes offered at Day Centres.

Ability West provides a wide range of high-quality services to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism across Galway City and County. Services provided are day, residential, short breaks, community support, rehabilitative training, and multi-disciplinary support. The Role:

• Provide, under direction, instruction in a variety of areas including, arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living skills depending on people we support’ preferences and ability.
• Instruct on courses that will include specific skills as well as social development, personal care and community integration.
• Work as part of a team where work may be of a flexible nature and duties interrelate and overlap.
• To establish and maintain relationships with people we support that are based on respect and equality and that promotes their
• Experience in working with and supporting people we support who can present with behaviours that challenge.
• An ability to instruct people we support in all programmes offered at Day Centres.
• Full current driving license and ability to drive an manual car.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
