Job summary

The Johnstown Estate is seeking a practical Maintenance Operative to join our team. This hands-on role focuses on fixing, repairing and maintaining our busy hotel to ensure smooth daily operations.

You’ll troubleshoot issues, perform general repairs, and assist with plumbing and electrical tasks while upholding safety standards and reporting any major concerns to the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

• Hands-on maintenance experience in a hotel or similar environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and implement practical solutions.
• Experience with plumbing or basic plumbing repairs is desirable.
• Familiarity with painting, carpentry and general building maintenance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general repairs and maintenance throughout the hotel.
• Respond to maintenance requests from departments and resolve issues quickly.
• Perform basic plumbing repairs (leaks, taps, toilets, drains, pipework).
• Assist with electrical and lighting maintenance as needed.
• Carry out handyman tasks such as painting, decorating, carpentry, tiling and minor repairs.
• Maintain equipment, machinery, fixtures and fittings; keep records of work.
