Nazareth Care Ireland is seeking a compassionate Health Care Assistant to join Ballymote Community Nursing Unit. You will support residents with holistic care, promote independence, and work within a multidisciplinary team to enhance daily life.

The role requires prior elderly care experience or residential care exposure, strong communication, and a genuine interest in caring for older people. Training is provided in infection control and safety, with a supportive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Have FETAC Level 5 and/or other relevant training.
  • Have previous experience of caring for the elderly preferably in a residential setting.
  • Adopt a person-centered approach to care planning.
  • Experience of working with others in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Have a genuine interest in caring for older people.
  • Be positive and open to changing needs within Nazareth Care Ireland.
  • Participate in care planning with nursing and other staff.
  • Be proficient in Manual Handling and Patient Moving Skills.

Responsabilités

  • Deliver quality care to each resident.
  • Assist residents with intimate and personal care, based on assessed needs.
  • Assist residents with eating and drinking where appropriate.
  • Promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet.
  • Assist residents with mobilising.
  • Assist with diversional therapy (activities, movement to music).
  • Assist nursing staff with resident care and care of the dying.
  • Be familiar with infection control and safety policies.
  • Report changes in residents’ condition to the senior nurse on duty.
  • Ensure residents’ sleep patterns are respected at night.
  • Document records as required.

Ballymote Community Nursing Unit is registered to accommodate 32 male or female residents who require long-term residential care or who require short-term respite, convalescence or palliative care.

The nursing home is located in a residential area a short walk from the town of Ballymote. The building is single-storey and is decorated in a home-like way. The home has safe garden areas that are currently located and cultivated with raised beds and shrubs to make them interesting to residents.

Job Purpose

To enhance the quality of life of each resident by providing individualisedholistic care.To promote independence, and be able to communicate effectively with the resident and with the multidisciplinary team.

Main responsibilities
  • To deliver quality care to each resident
  • To assist residents with intimate and personal care, based on assessed needs
  • To assist residents with eating and drinking where and when appropriate
  • To promote and encourage a normal nutritional diet
  • To assist residents with mobilizing
  • To assist with diversional therapy i.e. activities, movement to music etc.
  • Assist nursing staff with all the resident care and the care of the dying
  • Be familiar with the control of infection
  • Report any changes in residents’ condition to senior nurse on duty
  • At night to ensure residents sleep patterns are not unduly disrupted by excessive noise
  • Document any records you are required to keep in the course of your duty.

Health & Safety
  • Due to the high dependency of the residents, close supervision day and night is vital
  • To be aware of health and safety policies within Nazareth Care Ireland
  • To report any faulty equipment e.g. lifting hoists, bath hoists, etc. to your immediate supervisor
  • To familiarize yourself with the use of transfer slide sheets, handling belts
  • Use hoists only with a second staff member present
  • Ensure you understand policies and procedures with regard to Evacuation and Fire.
