Job summary

Vickerstock, in partnership with a leading food manufacturer, is seeking a Health & Safety Manager to own H&S across a busy site in Ireland.

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will lead programmes, audits, investigations and training, embedding safe practices and driving continuous improvements across the operation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' post-qualification Health & Safety experience.
• Strong experience in manufacturing/production environments.
• IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• Good communication and influencing skills.
• Proactive, hands-on approach with improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site's H&S programme, policies and systems.

• Conduct H&S audits and site inspections.
• Lead investigations of accidents and near-misses.

Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading food manufacturing organisation on the appointment of a Health & Safety Manager.

Reporting directly to the Site Manager and working closely with the wider Group H&S function, you will take ownership of Health & Safety across a busy food manufacturing site.

This is a hands-on leadership role, combining day-to-day operational support with responsibility for H&S systems, compliance, performance and culture. You will work closely with managers, employees and contractors to drive practical improvements and maintain high safety standards across the site.

In your new role:

• Lead the site's Health & Safety programme, policies, procedures and management systems
• Partner with operational management to embed safe working practices across production
• Lead risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented
• Conduct H&S audits and inspections, managing actions through to completion
• Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Deliver and coordinate H&S training, inductions and toolbox talks
• Monitor H&S KPIs and trends, providing regular reports and recommendations to senior management
• Chair site safety meetings and drive employee engagement and behavioural safety initiatives
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and liaise with regulatory bodies where required
• Manage contractor H&S requirements and standards onsite
• Provide practical guidance across occupational health, ergonomics, equipment safety and safe working practices
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across site H&S performance

What you'll need to succeed:

• Relevant Health & Safety qualification, IOSH or equivalent
• 3+ years' post-qualification Health & Safety experience
• Strong experience within manufacturing, production or a similarly operational environment
• Practical experience across risk assessment, auditing, inspections and incident investigation
• Good working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation
• Strong communication and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage employees and management at all levels
• Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to identify and implement improvements
• Strong attention to detail, reporting and IT skills

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):

• Previous H&S experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or high-volume production
• Previous experience as a Site H&S Manager, H&S Lead or Senior Advisor
• Experience delivering H&S training and behavioural safety initiatives
