Job summary

Collins McNicholas Recruitment is helping a busy manufacturing company in Cork, Ireland, to recruit a Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor. This hands-on, site-based role will see you promoting safe working practices and supporting compliance across the site.

You will lead risk assessments, SWOPs, inductions, incident investigations and ongoing HSE communications, ensuring legislation adherence, training, and continuous safety improvements with management and frontline teams.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or EQF Level 6
  • 3-5 years professional experience
  • Working knowledge of formal Management Systems
  • Active IOSH or similar accredited professional body
  • Ability to communicate complex matters confidently and professionally at all levels within the organisation
  • Self‑disciplined and able to deliver projects within agreed timescales
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint for professional communications

Responsibilities

  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation and inform Site MD
  • Ensure a safe working environment and current compliance with H&S legislation and ACOP
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental legislation and best practices
  • Manage risk assessment and SWOP processes; review by Supervisors/Managers
  • Deliver site HSE induction for new starters, contractors and visitors
  • Manage near-miss and accident reporting, investigations and records
  • Ensure corrective actions from incident investigations are implemented
  • Maintain HSE documentation and ensure up-to-date formats
  • Identify core issues/risks and engage with site personnel
  • Maintain ISTs and ensure site managers conduct tours per schedule
  • Conduct internal HSE site audits
  • Act as hands-on advisor for site safety plan development and monitoring
  • Ensure training requirements are met for HSE
  • Lead tri-monthly site safety committee meetings and minutes
  • Populate and update health, safety and environmental boards
  • Collect and report weekly/monthly HSE KPI data externally
  • Manage PPE stocks and supplies

Job description

We’re working with a busy manufacturing company that is looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join the team. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll be out on the floor, working closely with managers and employees to promote safe working practices, support compliance, and help drive a strong safety culture across the site.

The Site HSE Advisor will work with site management, teams and individuals in order to progress safe working practices and to develop risk assessments and safe systems of work.

  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation and ensure Site MD is informed of same
  • Ensure that a safe working environment is maintained at the site and that the site is working in compliance with current Health and Safety legislation, best practice and approved codes of practice (ACOP)
  • Ensure that the site is working in compliance with current Environmental legislation, best practice and approved codes of practice and that the site is not conducting any practices that could have a negative impact on the environment
  • Manage the risk assessment (RA) and safe working operating procedures (SWOP) process, ensuring that all Supervisors and Managers regularly review these documents in line with business standards and current legislation, guidance and ACOP
  • Deliver the site Health & Safety induction programme for all new starters, contractors and visitors to site
  • Manage the near miss and accident reporting processes for health and safety, and the environment, ensuring that all incidents are fully investigated and recorded in line with business standards and current legislation, guidance and ACOP
  • Ensure that the site Management team implements all corrective actions established as part of an incident investigation within the agreed timescale
  • Ensure that all health, safety and environmental documentation is current, compliant and up to date with the latest HSE format
  • Identify underlying core issues/risks and engage at all site levels, both with colleagues, site technical staff and management within the site
  • Maintain the site register of Interactive Safety Tours (IST) and ensure that all site Managers conduct their tours in alignment with the agreed site schedule
  • Conduct internal audits of the site
  • Act as a hands‑on Advisor with overall accountability for developing the site safety plan and continuously updating and monitoring the plan
  • Ensure that the site is compliant with its H&S training requirements
  • Facilitate the tri‑monthly site safety committee meeting, ensure a good balance of representation from the site, including the site lead, and create and distribute the meeting minutes
  • Ensure that the site health, safety and environmental information boards are populated and up to date
  • Collect and collate weekly and monthly Divisional HSE KPI data and report externally
  • Manage stocks of PPE and supplies relevant to the staff protection and well being

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualifications (EQF Level 6)
  • 3-5 years professional experience
  • Have a working knowledge of formal Management systems
  • Active member of IOSH or similar accredited professional body
  • Ability to communicate complex matters confidently and professionally at all levels within the organisation
  • Self‑disciplined and able to work to bring all projects and tasks to a suitable conclusion within agreed timescales
  • Possess good I.T. skills and are proficient in the use of word, excel and PowerPoint in order to create suitable professional communications
