Job summary

Morgan McKinley is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the site’s safety management systems. You will work with management and staff to promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Irish health & safety legislation.

The role involves conducting audits, assisting with risk assessments, SOPs and incident investigations, and coordinating safety training for employees, contractors and visitors.

Job description

Role Purpose

The Health & Safety Coordinator will support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Health & Safety management systems across the site. Working closely with management, supervisors and employees, the role will promote a strong safety culture and ensure that appropriate systems, procedures, training and controls are in place to protect the health, safety and welfare of all employees, contractors and visitors.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with Irish Health & Safety legislation and supporting the company in maintaining a safe, well-managed and proactive working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Health & Safety Management
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's Health & Safety policies, procedures and systems.
• Conduct regular workplace safety audits, identifying hazards and following up on corrective actions.
• Assist with the preparation, review and maintenance of Risk Assessments, Safe Operating Procedures and Method Statements.
• Monitor compliance with site Health & Safety procedures and elevate areas of concern where required.
• Incident & Accident Management
• Assist with the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences.
• Identify root causes and recommend appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
• Maintain accurate records of accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Assist in identifying Health & Safety training requirements across the business.
• Coordinate Health & Safety training and maintain appropriate training records.
• Support the delivery of Health & Safety inductions for new employees, contractors and visitors.
• Deliver Manual Handling training as part of the new employee induction process
• Coordinate refresher Manual Handling training in line with company requirements and identified training needs.
• Promote safety awareness through toolbox talks, safety communications and other initiatives.
• Emergency Preparedness
• Assist with fire safety inspections, drills and emergency preparedness activities.
• Contractor & Visitor Safety
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date Health & Safety records and documentation.
• Assist with the preparation of Health & Safety reports, statistics and performance updates.

Person Specification

• Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, such as a Level 6 qualification or equivalent.
• Experience in a Health & Safety role, preferably within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
• Good knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and workplace safety requirements.
• Experience carrying out risk assessments, inspections and incident investigations.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.

Desirable

• Manual Handling Instructor qualification.
• Fire Safety / Fire Warden qualification.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience with internal audits and safety improvement programmes.
