Job summary

Cowper Care Centre in Baldoyle, Dublin 13, is seeking a Healthcare Assistant for our St Patrick's Care Centre to provide person-centred care to residents in a nursing home setting. You will support daily living activities, meals and social engagement under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, with scope for ongoing training and career progression.

Garda Vetting is required for successful applicants.

Qualifications

• Experience in nursing home environment or relevant care experience.
• Strong written and spoken English; ability to communicate with residents and team.
• Desirable QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support.

Responsibilities

• Maximise the independence of residents and support with activities of daily living.
• Assist with washing, toileting, dressing, eating and mobility under supervision.
• Support residents' meals, respecting dietary needs and preferences.
• Participate in social, recreational and educational activities to stimulate residents.
• Report changes in residents' physical or mental state to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
• Maintain a safe, clean and dignified environment for residents, staff and visitors.

Job description

Cowper Care is seeking applications for the role of Healthcare Assistant for its Nursing Home - St Patrick's Care Centre, Baldoyle, Dublin 13.

Purpose

To provide quality person centred care to our residents that is both efficient and effective.

The Health Care Assistant will

• Maximise the independence of the resident.
• Provide support to the resident to achieve the highest possible quality of Life.
• Afford every opportunity to the resident to live and die with dignity.
• Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to residents, promoting their equality and dignity at all times.
• Carry out assigned and delegated tasks involving direct care and all activities of daily living under the direction and supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager e.g. washing, toileting, dressing, and undressing, dining and all other aspects of daily living.
• Contribute to a range of social, recreational and educational activities aimed at providing a stimulating environment for the residents.
• Maximise the emotional and physical comfort of residents.
• Participate in care delivery as outlined in the resident's care plan, reporting any changes observed in a resident's physical or mental state.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for the residents, staff and visitors.
• Engage in the serving of resident meals with an awareness of their dietary needs and assistance required.

Requirements

• Experience in a nursing home environment or relevant experience
• Strong written and spoken English
• Desirable: QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support
• Knowledge of and experience in dementia care

This is a Full-time position - 39 hours per week.
