Job summary

The Talbot Group are seeking a Direct Support Worker in Monaghan. You will provide person-centred care and support to residents with Intellectual Disability/ABI/Autism, working under the Unit/Centre Manager to uphold high standards of care.

Qualifications

  • Fetac Level 5 Health Care Major Award or equivalent.
  • Experience in care environment.
  • Knowledge of cognitive rehabilitation principles.
  • Awareness of HIQA National Disability Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Work under Unit/Centre Manager to maintain high care standards.
  • Collaborate with MDT, families and others to meet personal goals.
  • Act as key worker for a resident where appropriate.
  • Provide individualised personal care with dignity and respect.
  • Support healthy meals and assist with meal prep as needed.
  • Promote good personal care skills (toileting, bathing).
  • Ensure resident comfort and hygiene.
  • Encourage community participation and activities beyond standard hours.

7 x 12 hour shifts over a 14 day period

Salary Band:

€15.15 per hour to €17.15 per hour

Purpose of the Role:

The primary objective of this post is to provide care and support through a person-centred approach which meets the practical, physical, and emotional needs of residents, with an Intellectual Disability/ABI/Autism.

Person Centred Support
  • To work under the direction of the Unit/Centre Manager to ensure that the highest possible standards of care are maintained at all times, consistent with the mission, vision and values of the service.
  • Working in partnership with MDT staff, families and other key people to support the resident to work towards and achieve their personal goals, guided by their individual care plan.
  • To act as a key worker for a named resident where appropriate.
  • Providing individualised support, using a facilitative approach to personal care, whilst ensuring residents' right to dignity and respect at all times.
  • Enabling the resident to eat a well-balanced diet, through supporting him/her in meal preparation at whatever level of assistance he/she requires, promoting personal choice at all times.
  • Assisting and promoting good personal care skills, e.g. toileting, bathing/showering
  • To carry out any duties necessary to ensure the comfort and hygiene of residents.
  • Facilitating the resident to take an active part in their community, by supporting them in whatever way necessary to use a wide range of community facilities. This may involve trips/excursions outside of normal working hours.
Role Requirements:
  • Fetac Level 5 - Health Care Major Award or its equivalent
  • Experience working in a care environment.
  • Good knowledge of the principals and techniques utilised in cognitive rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of National Disability Standards (HIQA)
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
  • Previous experience in providing care for persons with an intellectual disability.
  • Experience working in a rehabilitation setting.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Have completed Intellectual Disability Module as part of Fetac 5 Major Award.
