Job summary

Harper Finley seeks a Director of Engineering to lead the energy infrastructure engineering function. You will oversee concept-to-construction design, set technical standards and manage a growing multidisciplinary team in a senior leadership capacity.

Responsibilities include directing energy centre and network design, overseeing modelling, contracts, and risk, while guiding major projects through feasibility to delivery in Ireland's evolving low-carbon energy landscape.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience in energy, utilities or comparable infrastructure.
  • 3+ years leading technical teams.
  • Proven experience taking projects from early concept and feasibility through to construction.
  • Strong knowledge of thermal systems, energy centres and heat networks.
  • Understanding of construction contracts, design responsibility and project risk.
  • Commercially minded with understanding of how tech assumptions impact costs and returns.
  • Experience procuring and managing consultants, suppliers and contractors.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in Irish energy/utilities sector advantageous.
  • Experience with large-scale heat pumps, heat recovery, geothermal preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the technical team across energy centre, network and customer connection design.
  • Own technical development from initial concept to construction-ready design.
  • Set technical standards, design principles and stage-gate requirements.
  • Oversee energy modelling, heat demand assessments, hydraulic modelling and options.
  • Manage technical consultants, suppliers and contractors, including scopes, tenders and evaluations.
  • Own technical CAPEX and OPEX assumptions and input into financial models.
  • Support planning, funding applications, customer agreements and technical due diligence.
  • Ensure design risk management, compliance and handover to construction.
  • Act as senior technical authority presenting proposals to leadership and investors.
  • Drive continuous improvement across technical standards, processes and development.
