Job summary

Excel Recruitment is seeking an Assistant Manager for a busy Douglas, Cork convenience store. This hands-on leadership role works with the Store Manager to drive performance, manage staff and uphold high standards.

You will lead from the shop floor, oversee rotas and training, monitor KPI performance and ensure HACCP and health & safety compliance while delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in convenience or grocery retail as a manager or supervisor.
• Strong people-management and communication skills.
• KPI awareness and ability to drive sales.

Responsibilities

• Support Store Manager with day-to-day store operations.
• Lead and develop the team to deliver excellent customer service.
• Take full responsibility for the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
• Manage staff rotas and daily task allocation.
• Monitor KPIs including sales, labour and margins.
• Ensure high standards in merchandising and store presentation.
• Oversee stock ordering, deliveries and replenishment.
• Support food handling and safety compliance (HACCP).
• Assist with recruitment, onboarding and performance management.
• Identify opportunities to improve sales and customer experience.
• Support promotional activity and brand standards.
