Scope
We are currently recruiting a Group Leader to join the Thermo King Galway Operations team reporting to the Operations Manager. The successful candidate will ensure the manufacturing process meets production targets while maintaining the highest quality standards and achieving continuous cost reduction targets.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Achieve production, safety, and quality targets and establish standard work. Ensure standard work is carried out, improved, and root‑cause problems are eliminated.
- Maintain area efficiency concerning manpower, productivity, and overtime levels, and demonstrate innovation in productivity and cost improvement initiatives.
- Determine delivery points, layout, and presentation of direct materials; establish line‑feed quantities and frequencies; document methods, layout, and systems with the team.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements, including management of the 5S program (auditing, reporting, issue resolution).
- Identify, measure, and display performance criteria and cell metrics; make decisions and solve problems in a dynamic environment using problem‑solving techniques.
- Work with group members to develop problem‑solving skills and generate ideas for continuous improvement actions.
- Plan manpower and forecast in conjunction with HR, participate directly in recruitment, and establish training and development plans for new hires.
- Coordinate resource allocation to achieve daily outputs, manage vacation and absence administration, and maintain systems for information capture.
- Design, improve, and distribute work assignments; ensure procedures and instructions accurately reflect activities.
- Foster a strong team‑working environment through cooperation, respect, fairness, and positive employee engagement.
- Communicate daily with team members, provide feedback on performance, schedules, quality, cost initiatives, and corrective actions.
- Complete performance reviews in the first year, conduct development conversations, and work with HR to document objectives and development plans.
- Handle grievance and disciplinary issues with HR support.
- Identify new training requirements with the Training Specialist(s) and develop training plans.
- Control, maintain, and monitor all machinery and related activities; establish a budget for consumables.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as a production supervisor or similar role.
- Profound experience with a variety of manufacturing machinery and tools.
- Good practical experience with MS Office.
- Experience collaborating with unions is a distinct advantage.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a results‑driven approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self‑motivated and an efficient problem solver.
- Third‑level qualification in business, engineering, or a related field.
