Job summary

Ballyfin Demesne, Co. Laois, is seeking an experienced Groundskeeper to join our garden team, overseeing maintenance across 614 acres of landscaped grounds.

Reporting to the Estate Manager, you will help keep the estate safe, presentable and welcoming for guests. Key duties include mowing, leaf clearance, pruning, tree work and equipment maintenance, with a focus on high standards, safety and teamwork within a luxury setting.

Qualifications

• Experience in grounds maintenance on large estates or gardens.
• Ability to operate lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers and leaf blowers.
• Willingness to follow safety guidelines and handle potentially hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Mows lawns, trims weeds, and rakes leaves as assigned.
• Picks up and removes debris and leaves prior to mowing designated areas.
• Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges as required.
• Cuts and removes trees as needed.
• Applies fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides as directed.
• Maintains machinery and equipment.
• Clears roadways and pathways of leaves/debris across the estate.

Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Groundskeeper to join our Garden team at Ballyfin; working across 614 acres of natural beauty.

Main Purpose of Job:

Reporting directly to the Estate Manager, this role is responsibile for maintaining the grounds of the Estate in a clean, presentable and safe manner at all times.

Main Duties include:

• Mows lawns, trims weeds, and rakes leaves as assigned
• Picks up and removes debris and leaves prior to mowing a designated area
• Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges as required
• Cuts and removes trees as needed
• Applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed
• Performs routine maintenance on machinery and equipment
• Responsible for clearing roadways, pathways of leaves/debris across estate
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Drain and clean water figures as required

Skills/Attributes Required:

• Previous experience in a similar position is preferred.
• Ability to operate various types of machinery and equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other landscaping equipment.
• Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments.
• Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team
• Chain Saw Certificate is desirable
• Full clean Irish Drivers licence is required

Physical requirements:

• Prolonged periods walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, or kneeling.
• Must be physically able to operate machinery and equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 20KG
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.
