• Experience as general operative, maintenance or multi-trade role.
• Experience in general building maintenance and repairs.
• Experience in painting, decorating, carpentry, plastering, plumbing, tiling and general repairs is desirable.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to identify potential hazards and take precautions.
• Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Reliable, practical and conscientious approach to work.
• Good attention to detail and pride in quality of work.
• Must be computer literate.

• Undertake multi-trade tasks including painting, decorating, carpentry, plumbing, gardening, plastering, tiling and general repairs.
• Maintain buildings, facilities, premises and external grounds to a high standard.
• Carry out routine inspections, repairs and maintenance and report defects or issues.
• Ensure work is completed to a high standard of workmanship within timescales.
• Use, maintain and store tools, equipment, materials and supplies safely.
• Keep work areas clean, tidy and hazard-free during and after work.
• Complete risk assessments before hazardous activities.
• Follow health and safety procedures, especially when working at height or with tools and chemicals.
• Use protective equipment when required.
• Report accidents, incidents, hazards and maintenance issues promptly to line manager.
• Keep line manager informed of progress and any issues encountered.
• Assist with moving, handling and positioning materials safely.
• Collaborate with colleagues and contractors as required.
• Perform other reasonable duties as directed.

Job Purpose

To carry out a wide range of general maintenance, remedial, refurbishment, repair and decorating works across the premises and grounds, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. The role requires a practical, multi-skilled individual who can work independently and as part of a team while following management instructions and health and safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance, remedial, refurbishment, repair and decorating works as directed by management.
• Undertake a variety of multi-trade tasks, including painting and decorating, basic carpentry, plumbing, gardening, plastering, tiling, repairs, maintenance and other general building works within the individual's skills and experience.
• Maintain the buildings, facilities, premises and external grounds to a high standard.
• Carry out routine inspections, repairs and maintenance and report any defects, damage or issues requiring specialist attention.
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard of workmanship, within agreed timescales and in accordance with management instructions.
• Ensure the correct and safe use, maintenance and storage of tools, equipment, materials and supplies.
• Keep work areas clean, tidy and free from hazards and ensure areas are left safe during and following completion of work.
• Complete appropriate risk assessments before undertaking potentially hazardous activities.
• Follow all relevant health and safety procedures, particularly when working at height or when using ladders, power tools, machinery, chemicals or hazardous materials.
• Ensure appropriate protective equipment and safeguards are used when required.
• Report accidents, incidents, hazards, defects and maintenance issues promptly to the line manager.
• Keep the line manager fully informed of work undertaken, work completed, outstanding tasks and any problems encountered during the working day.
• Assist with moving, handling and positioning materials, equipment and furniture where required, using safe manual-handling practices.
• Work cooperatively with colleagues, contractors and other personnel when required.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities requested by the line manager that are appropriate to the role.

Skills and Experience

• Previous experience in a general operative, maintenance or multi-trade role.
• Practical knowledge and experience of general building maintenance and repairs.
• Experience in areas such as painting and decorating, carpentry, plastering, plumbing, tiling and general repairs is desirable.
• Ability to use a range of hand tools and power tools safely and correctly.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to identify potential hazards and take appropriate precautions before commencing work.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and complete tasks effectively.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable, practical and conscientious approach to work.
• Good attention to detail and pride in the quality of completed work.
• Must be computer literate.
