Job description

Job Title: General Manager

Location: HYDE Hotel, Galway City Centre

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer

Overview of HYDE Hotel

HYDE Hotel is a 4-star, 69-bedroom boutique property in the heart of Galway City. The hotel combines high-quality accommodation with a distinctive, design-led food & beverage offering:

  • HYDE Bar & Restaurant – a high-energy, standalone-style venue with its own entrance and strong local identity (not a traditional “hotel bar”).
  • Jekyll – a flexible function and events space for up to 90 guests, also used as a restaurant extension on busy evenings.
  • Wylde Café – a contemporary café with its own street entrance and strong daytime trade.

While the hotel’s F&B outlets are prominent and brand-defining, rooms are the core profit driver, and the successful candidate must balance a strong revenue and rooms-focus with excellence in F&B and guest experience.

Role Purpose

To take full responsibility for the leadership, strategic direction, and profitable operation of HYDE Hotel, ensuring:

  • Consistently strong room revenue and profitability
  • High-quality guest experience across all outlets
  • Effective brand positioning of HYDE Bar, Jekyll, and Wylde Café
  • Strong owner and stakeholder satisfaction
  • A motivated, high-performing team and a culture of continuous improvement
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & People Management
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the hotel’s management team.
  • Create a positive, accountable, and performance‑driven culture.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and retention to ensure high standards and low staff turnover.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, employment law, and company standards.
2. Commercial & Revenue Management
  • Own the hotel’s P&L and deliver agreed revenue, GOP, and EBITDA targets.
  • Work closely with revenue management and sales/marketing teams to optimise:
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR)
  • Occupancy
  • RevPAR and overall room profitability
  • Drive strategies for room sales across all channels: direct, OTA, corporate, groups, and tour series.
  • Ensure appropriate rate and inventory management in line with market demand and brand positioning.
3. Rooms & Guest Experience
  • Maintain consistently high standards in rooms (presentation, cleanliness, maintenance, amenities).
  • Ensure effective front office operations, reservations, and guest communications.
  • Monitor guest feedback (online reviews, surveys, direct feedback) and implement improvements.
  • Champion a guest‑centric culture; ensure issues are resolved quickly and professionally.
4. Food & Beverage Operations
  • Oversee HYDE Bar & Restaurant, Jekyll, and Wylde Café as distinct but integrated outlets.
  • Ensure each outlet has a clear concept, target market, and commercial plan.
  • Optimise revenue and profitability from F&B, including:
  • Menu engineering and pricing
  • Beverage and cocktail strategy
  • Promotions, events, and local collaborations
  • Drive service standards, consistency, and atmosphere suited to a busy city‑centre operation.
5. Events & Functions (Jekyll)
  • Maximise revenue from private events, corporate functions, and special occasions in Jekyll.
  • Ensure effective coordination between sales, events, kitchen, and service teams.
  • Maintain a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and flexibility in event delivery.
6. Brand, Marketing & Community
  • Ensure HYDE Hotel and its outlets are positioned as leading venues in Galway city.
  • Collaborate with marketing to drive brand awareness, social media presence, and local PR.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, tourism bodies, and community stakeholders.
7. Financial Management & Controls
  • Work with the Group Finance Team to report on budgets, forecasts, and monthly performance.
  • Control costs across payroll, purchasing, utilities, and overheads without compromising standards.
  • Ensure robust financial controls, stock management, and loss prevention are in place.
8. Compliance, Safety & Standards
  • Ensure full compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including:
  • Health & Safety
  • Food Safety & HACCP
  • Fire Safety
  • Licensing laws
  • Maintain brand and quality standards across all departments.
