Job Description
The role of Laboratory Technician is to prepare and analyse customer food samples while maintaining efficiency, quality, and accuracy standards as required by the company. Upon commencement of employment, a training plan will be initiated and discussed with the Technician as part of their development plan.
This is a full‑time role working 39 hours per week: Wednesday to Saturday 10:00‑18:15 (18:30 finish on Fridays) and Sunday 08:00‑16:15.
Training shift hours will be Tuesday to Saturday 10:00‑18:15.
- Preparation of food samples for analysis.
- Become competent in the laboratory work practices and requirements that facilitate analysis.
- Become familiar with all relevant laboratory test methods and procedures (i.e. SOPs).
- Ensure that all client samples are tested on time, and notify a Senior Technician / Laboratory Manager of any time delays.
- Accurately log samples into the system in a timely manner.
- Complete all documentation on time, accurately and legibly.
- Check weights and temperatures in line with company procedures.
- Ensure that the laboratory is stocked with pipettes, autoclave bags, etc.
- Ensure compliance with the 17025 standard at all times by adhering to the in‑house quality procedures provided.
- Keep training sheets up to date and initiate training where possible.
- Adhere to all company standards in the area of safety, housekeeping and quality, notifying a Senior Technician or Laboratory Manager of any discrepancies.
- Keep the laboratory area clean and tidy.
- Clean laboratory equipment as required, including fridges, incubators, water baths, etc.
- Ensure that all sanitiser bottles and beakers are filled and changed regularly and that the correct control labels are attached.
- Ensure that there are no reagents or media in the laboratory that have past their expiry date.
- Ensure that all documentation relating to customer samples is filed.
- Take part in proficiency testing as instructed by a Senior Technician.
- Provide cover for other members of staff as required and participate in the weekend rota.
- Be flexible to work in any area of the business as required.
