ESB is seeking an Infrastructure Operations Apprentice to develop alongside college training, supporting IT infrastructure including servers, networks and storage while learning from experienced engineers.

The role covers operational support, end-user service, provisioning of infrastructure components, and collaboration with network, cloud, and storage teams within ESB's IT and OT environments.

• Monitor system health, performance and availability; escalate issues as required.
• Support incident, problem and change management processes.
• Work with senior engineers to resolve service issues and restore service quickly.
• End-User & Service Support: provide basic technical support to users via service desk channels and assist with access management.

Role Description

Key responsibilities

This is an Apprentice/Development role and successful candidate will be developed in the following areas in parallel with college training

• Operational Support
• Assist with the day-to-day operation of IT infrastructure platforms (e.g. servers, virtualisation, networks, storage
• Monitor system health, performance, and availability, escalating issues as required
• Support incident, problem, and change management processes
• Work with senior engineers to resolve service issues and restore service quickly
• End-User & Service Support
• Provide basic technical support to users via service desk channels
• Assist with access management, collaboration tools, and device support
• Infrastructure & Platform Activities
• Support provisioning and configuration of infrastructure components (e.g. virtual machines, storage, network access)
• Assist with backup, recovery, and capacity management activities
• Work with infrastructure teams (network, cloud, storage, service management) to resolve issues
• Participate in structured training and on-the-job learning programmes
• Process & Documentation
• Follow IT service management processes and standards
• Document activities, incidents, and solutions to support knowledge sharing

Skills

• Basic understanding of IT infrastructure concepts (servers, networks, storage, cloud)
• Awareness of IT service management concepts (incident, change, service desk)
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills

Exposure to technologies such as:

• Microsoft 365 or end-user support tools
• Relevant degree, apprenticeship, or certification in IT or related discipline
