Job summary

Uniphar is seeking a field-based Service Engineer to provide technical support across Ireland for a broad range of medical devices. You will install, service, diagnose, and repair equipment, prioritise workloads, maintain calibration, and support customers and sales teams, with travel across Munster/Southern regions.

The role requires a biomedical/electronics/engineering background, a driving licence, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Background in Biomedical/Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation engineering; field experience preferred.
  • Certificate/Diploma or higher in Biomedical/Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation Engineering is preferable.
  • Strong fault diagnosis for hardware and software (mostly Windows based) issues; fast learner and independent thinker.
  • Busy role requiring flexibility, multi-tasking and prioritisation under pressure.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential.
  • Motivated to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge and interest in the healthcare industry.
  • Excellent computer skills and MS Office proficiency.
  • Dynamism and flexibility are essential.
  • Full driving licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Installations, preventive and corrective maintenance on surgical and ophthalmic medical devices.
  • Prioritise jobs and respond quickly to customer issues to minimise downtime.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose root causes for efficient repairs.
  • Ensure devices operate per manufacturer guidelines and calibration procedures.
  • Maintain test equipment within calibration and in good condition.
  • Install and commission new devices and liaise with sales and customers.
  • Complete ISO traceability paperwork for audits and invoicing.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and third parties as required.
  • Maintain parts stock at adequate levels.
  • Support sales with demonstrations and trade shows as needed.
  • Provide device care guidelines and training to customers.
  • Coordinate device movement with Logistics for installations.

Job description

Purpose of Role:

This role will be a Field based Service Engineer providing technical support in relation to a wide range of medical devices and related medical equipment to existing and new customers across Ireland. This role is 100% field-based and will mainly service Munster/South Ireland along with IOI as required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carrying out installations, preventative and corrective maintenance service and other repairs on a wide range of Surgical, Ophthalmic general Medical equipment including (theatre lights, medical gas pendants, Zeiss devices, Surgical devices, Ophthalmic Instruments, Operating Tables, Microscopes, Camera Stacks, Urodynamics equipment etc.

  • Ability to prioritise jobs and respond quickly to customer issues ensuring minimal customer operational downtime.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose root cause of problems to ensure correct and efficient repair for customers.

  • Ensuring devices operate to manufacturer guidelines and following their maintenance and calibrations procedures and check sheets.

  • Ensure all test equipment used is within calibration and in good working condition.

  • Arrange and undertake installation and commissioning of new devices, liaising with sales team and customers to assess pre-install requirements.

  • Completion of relevant paperwork to ISO standards for traceability, audits and invoicing.

  • Dealing with suppliers and third-party companies as required.

  • Maintaining parts stock to sufficient levels.

  • Responding to customer queries and questions and escalating issues when required, including passing on potential leads to the Sales team.

  • Customer focused with the ability to support the sales department for demonstrations and trade shows as required.

  • Supplying device care and maintenance guidelines and training to current and new customers.

  • Working with Logistics Department to move devices as required for installations and demonstrations.

  • Attending European based manufacturer training courses on specific medical equipment as and when required, to achieve manufacturer engineer equipment trained status.

  • Undertake online training courses as required to achieve manufacturer engineer equipment trained status.

Role Requirements:
  • A background in Biomedical/Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Instrumentation engineering with experience of working in a field role is preferable. (Having worked in similar role with medical device experience would be a distinct advantage).

  • Certificate/Diploma or higher in Biomedical/Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/ Instrumentation Engineering is preferable.

  • A good problem solver for fault diagnosis and resolution for both hardware and software (mostly windows based) issues. Fast learner, with the ability to think independently and creatively.

  • This is a busy role and will require an individual who can be flexible, multi-task and prioritise with the ability to work under pressure.

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills are also essential.

  • Highly motivated and able to work independently under own initiative as well as part of a team.

  • Knowledge and interest in the healthcare industry.

  • Excellent computer skills, good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Dynamism and flexibility are essential.

  • Competent in performing and completing tasks.

  • Ability to work well and stay calm under pressure and good disposition.

  • Full driving license required
