Engineering Manager

Location: Mayo, Ireland

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager to lead a high‑perf forming engineering team within a highly automated and regulated manufacturing environment. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for delivering complex capital projects, driving operational excellence, and advancing manufacturing capabilities through innovation and continuous improvement.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the site's technology landscape, leading projects from concept and feasibility through commissioning, validation, and operational handover. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on manufacturing performance, safety, quality, and efficiency while developing and mentoring a talented engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical leadership across engineering projects from inception through successful delivery.
  • Apply robust project management principles to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Identify, analyse, and resolve complex engineering challenges requiring in-depth technical expertise and sound judgement.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, productivity, reliability, and compliance.
  • Champion innovation and the adoption of new technologies to support business objectives.
  • Provide expertise in automated manufacturing systems, including high‑speed robotic and process equipment.
Project Management
  • Lead and manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously, effectively prioritising resources and deliverables.
  • Oversee capital expenditure and departmental budgets, ensuring financial targets are achieved.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional project teams and manage relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, consultants, and customers.
  • Ensure successful project execution through all stages, including feasibility, design, commissioning, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ).
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers within a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Support team development by building technical capability, business acumen, and leadership skills.
  • Coordinate engineering activities to ensure the successful completion of project deliverables while optimising safety, quality, cost, and operational efficiency.
  • Promote best‑in‑class engineering practices and ensure adherence to regulatory and quality requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, Manufacturing, or related discipline).
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience within a highly automated and regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing and developing technical engineering teams.
  • Strong track record of delivering complex engineering and capital projects.
Skills & Competencies
  • Extensive knowledge of automated manufacturing processes, equipment, systems, and technologies within a regulated industry environment.
  • Demonstrated project management leadership experience, including managing cross‑functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make balanced decisions relating to cost, compliance, quality, and productivity.
  • Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, organisational, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong decision‑making capability with a high degree of professional judgement and accountability.
  • Advanced IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with engineering and facility management software, including AutoCAD or equivalent systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills.
