Job summary

Morgan McKinley is seeking a Maintenance & Engineering Manager for a leading FMCG site in Dublin. You will lead the maintenance & engineering function, drive reliability, safety, and asset performance, and partner with Production, Quality, EHS and Supply Chain.

Responsibilities include developing the asset strategy, delivering continuous improvement, and managing capital projects to enable site growth and operational excellence.

Direct Reports: Maintenance, Engineering and Technical team members

The Opportunity

Seeking an experienced Maintenance & Engineering Manager to join a leading FMCG organisation in Dublin. This is a key site leadership role, responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety and performance of the site's manufacturing assets while driving a proactive engineering and maintenance culture.

The successful candidate will lead the maintenance and engineering function, balancing day-to-day operational requirements with longer-term asset strategy, continuous improvement and capital investment. They will work closely with Production, Quality, EHS, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to maximise equipment availability, improve OEE and support the site's growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Maintenance Leadership
  • Lead and develop the site Maintenance & Engineering function, creating a high-performing, accountable team.
  • Own the site's preventative and predictive maintenance strategy.
  • Ensure high levels of plant, equipment and utility availability and reliability.
  • Drive a transition from reactive to proactive and preventative maintenance.
  • Establish and monitor maintenance KPIs, including equipment downtime, MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance and maintenance costs.
  • Ensure effective planning, scheduling and execution of planned maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to production teams during breakdowns and operational challenges.
  • Ensure appropriate critical-spares strategies are in place.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
  • Drive engineering-led improvements to plant efficiency, reliability and productivity.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to improve OEE, reduce downtime and eliminate recurring failures.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving for significant equipment failures.
  • Implement reliability-centred maintenance and condition-monitoring approaches where appropriate.
  • Support Lean/Continuous Improvement initiatives across the site.
  • Develop and maintain an effective asset lifecycle management strategy.
Capital Projects & Engineering
  • Lead or support capital expenditure projects from concept and business case through to installation, commissioning and handover.
  • Manage engineering projects within agreed budgets, timelines and quality standards.
  • Work with internal and external engineering partners, contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Ensure new equipment is designed for maintainability, reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure effective project handover, documentation and maintenance readiness.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance within the engineering function.
  • Ensure all maintenance and engineering activities comply with relevant Irish legislation and company standards.
  • Ensure contractors are appropriately managed and comply with site safety requirements.
  • Support the site's food safety, quality and audit requirements.
  • Ensure engineering documentation, procedures, risk assessments and maintenance records are maintained to the required standard.
  • Promote a strong safety-first culture across the engineering team.
  • Recruit, coach and develop engineering and maintenance talent.
  • Set clear objectives and performance expectations for the team.
  • Develop technical capability and succession plans across the function.
  • Build strong working relationships with Production, Quality, EHS and Supply Chain.
  • Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant maintenance/engineering management experience within an FMCG, food, beverage, pharmaceutical or similarly high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience managing engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance methodologies.
  • Demonstrable experience improving equipment reliability, OEE and maintenance performance.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and capital expenditure.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety, quality and regulatory requirements within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance KPI reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis capability.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A hands-on, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach.
  • Experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing / Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of TPM, RCM or similar reliability methodologies.
  • Experience with PLCs, automation, robotics, process control or industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience managing contractors and external engineering partners.
  • Previous experience operating within a multinational FMCG organisation.
