Job description

A global leader in semiconductor and wireless technology is looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join its Core Peripherals Storage team. This is an opportunity to work on advanced storage technologies across next-generation SoCs, supporting products across mobile, automotive, home entertainment, and embedded computing.

The Core Peripherals Storage team develops storage drivers, filesystems, and tools for SoCs, supporting advanced flash technologies including UFS, NVMe, SD Express, eMMC, NAND, and NOR.

This role will focus on developing storage drivers and software modules across the storage stack, including bootloaders, UEFI, Windows HLOS, and Linux user space. You will work with filesystems including FAT within bootloaders and LittleFS within Zephyr RTOS, as well as contributing to storage flashing tools for development and factory environments.

The position will also involve developing PC-based tools for image creation (FAT, GPT) and flash provisioning, including UFS, alongside supporting proprietary filesystems and modem image modules such as MPSS, ADSP, CDSP, and SLPI. You will also develop and maintain Linux user-space tools for storage testing and validation.

Please note this is a fully onsite role in Cork.

Main Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain storage drivers and proprietary filesystem modules for modem processors and Linux-based SoCs.
• Work on Linux kernel components, including storage drivers, filesystem modules, block drivers, and memory subsystems.
• Optimise storage and memory performance for runtime efficiency and power consumption.
• Support product commercialisation by debugging and resolving kernel-level issues reported by customers and flash vendor partners.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, open-source software teams, and the Linux community.
• Engage with the upstream Linux kernel community to design and implement new storage and memory features.
• Support expansion into markets beyond mobile, including automotive, home entertainment, and embedded computing.

What Are We Looking For?

• 4+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Excellent programming skills with expert-level C knowledge; Python knowledge is a plus.
• Expertise in Linux kernel programming, device driver development, and kernel internals, including memory management and scheduling.
• Experience with Linux filesystem modules such as F2FS, EXT4, or EROFS is a plus.
• Strong kernel and user-space debugging skills, including experience with JTAG or ICE debuggers.
• Good understanding of embedded and real-time programming concepts and real-time operating systems.
• Familiarity with ARM architecture and hardware-level debugging is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
