Job summary

ABEC Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design and installation for projects, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

The role includes interfacing with customers, developing control panels, schematics, and supporting field services. Required is a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ experience with 400/480 VAC systems, plus familiarity with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Emerson DeltaV) and NEC/NFPA 70.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience with 400/480 VAC, three-phase, 50/60 Hz motor circuits.
• Experience sizing feeders/branch circuits, loads, protections and short-circuit ratings.
• Familiarity with PLC hardware and NEC/NFPA 70, UL508A standards.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Electrical Engineer reports functionally to the Engineering Manager. This position is responsible for executing all functions as they relate to the Electrical Engineering Department and associated projects. The primary responsibility is to ensure appropriate electrical design, development and installation of electrical hardware and systems, and to support electrical engineering and design functions. The Electrical Engineer will provide direction and support to the Electrical Design Group as required to properly execute electrical designs, projects and schedules.

Responsibilities:

• Assume Electrical Engineering project lead to interface with customer and ensure customer satisfaction. (Travel as requested to support ABEC’s customers).
• Understand all project requirements, specifications and objectives.
• Defines Electrical and Instrumentation scope of work and develops all required specifications.
• Executes quality management plan in accordance with ABEC standard procedures.
• Electrical Estimating and Forecasting.
• Develops and Coordinates design and/or manufacturing efforts to ensure compliance to specifications.
• Assists in development of control panel layouts, electrical schematics, instrument and control loop drawings, assembly drawings and bill of materials.
• Maintain organized project related records.
• Development of hardware documentation including details, setup parameters and operations and maintenance manuals. Provide training to end user(s).
• Provide technical support to customers, sales and marketing.
• Evaluate and recommend electrical upgrades to existing equipment or systems as required.
• Develops control hardware design specifications.
• Support and assist customer field service requirements, planned and unplanned.
• Supports planned and unscheduled Field Services with respect to Electrical needs.
• Supports commissioning, start-up and customer quality testing as required.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years’ experience with 400/480 VAC, three-phase, 50/60Hz motor circuits and 24Vdc relay and PLC control circuits.
• Experience with electrical sizing of feeder and branch circuits and associated load calculations including mains and branch circuit loads and protection, short circuit current ratings and thermal load of panels.
• Understanding of PLC hardware application and usage, knowledge of Allen-Bradley and Emerson DeltaV hardware a plus.
• Knowledge and understanding of process instrumentation.
• Knowledgeable with North America standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, UL508A).
• Familiarization with European Union Machinery Directive and IEC Standards a plus.
• Ability to interpret and apply P&ID’s toward electrical design strategies and specifications.
• Bachelor’s degree (Level 8) in electrical engineering from an accredited university.

Desired attributes:

• AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor Software a plus.
• Familiarity with OEM work process and business model.
• Interface with multi-disciplined engineering groups.
• Experience with design application, specifying and selecting electrical components and instrumentation.
• Familiarity with instrument control loop drawings and I/O lists.
