Job summary

HireWise is seeking a Site Health & Safety Manager for major Leinster construction projects. You will lead EHS on live sites, build relationships with Project Managers, Supervisors and subcontractors, and drive practical safety improvements while fostering engagement rather than mere compliance.

Our client is an established Irish Main Contractor experiencing a strong period of growth, having secured significant new work across the Leinster region.

As the business continues to expand, they are looking to appoint an EHS Advisor to play an important role in maintaining and further developing the company's approach to health, safety and environmental standards across its projects.

This is not a role for someone who simply walks onto site looking for problems or focuses solely on compliance.

They're looking for an EHS professional who can build relationships, influence behaviours and bring people with them.

You’ll work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, supervisors, workers and subcontractors, providing practical guidance and identifying opportunities to improve working practices. The aim is to create safer, better ways of working by earning the respect of the people on site and driving positive change, rather than simply telling people what they cannot do.

It’s a highly visible role within a growing business, offering the opportunity to work across significant Irish construction projects while having genuine influence over how EHS is approached across the organisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

Driving Positive Change

Take a proactive approach to improving EHS standards across assigned projects.

You’ll identify risks and opportunities for improvement, provide practical guidance and work with site teams to develop safer and more effective ways of working.

The focus will be on bringing people with you — influencing behaviours and encouraging teams to understand and own good EHS practices rather than simply enforcing rules.

Building Strong Site Relationships

Develop trusted relationships with Project Managers, Site Managers, supervisors, workers and subcontractors.

You’ll need to be someone that site professionals respect and listen to, with the communication and persuasion skills to influence decisions and encourage positive changes in behaviour.

Your credibility on site will be just as important as your technical knowledge.

Providing Practical EHS Guidance

Provide practical advice and support on health, safety and environmental matters across live construction projects.

You’ll help teams understand the risks associated with their activities and identify appropriate control measures, while ensuring projects meet statutory, regulatory, client and company requirements.

Identifying Opportunities to Improve

Carry out regular site inspections and audits, but with a focus on improvement rather than simply finding fault.

You’ll look at how work is actually being carried out, identify where practices could be safer or more effective and work collaboratively with site teams to implement appropriate solutions.

Supporting Project Delivery

Work closely with project teams from planning through to delivery, supporting the development and implementation of EHS plans, risk assessments, RAMS, inductions and other relevant documentation.

You’ll help ensure EHS considerations are embedded into the way projects are planned and delivered.

Leading Through Influence

Challenge unsafe practices when necessary, but do so in a way that builds engagement and encourages lasting behavioural change.

You’ll have the confidence to challenge, combined with the interpersonal skills to explain why a different approach is needed and how it can be implemented effectively.

Monitor EHS performance, identify trends and recommend practical improvements.

You’ll work with the EHS Manager and wider project teams to ensure corrective actions are implemented and that lessons learned are shared across the business.

What You Should Have:

Strong Construction EHS Background

A proven track record working in an EHS role within construction or a similar environment.

You’ll have strong technical knowledge but, importantly, understand how to apply that knowledge practically on live sites.

Influence & Persuasion

The ability to influence people is critical.

We’re looking for someone who can build credibility with experienced site professionals, understand different perspectives and bring people along when changes to working practices are required.

You’re confident challenging decisions when necessary, but your natural approach is collaborative rather than confrontational.

Practical & Commercial Mindset

You understand that good EHS isn’t about stopping work unnecessarily or creating barriers to delivery.

You’re able to find practical, compliant solutions that allow projects to move forward safely and effectively.

Communication

You’ll be comfortable working with people at every level of a construction project and able to communicate EHS requirements clearly and practically.

You can have difficult conversations when required, while maintaining strong working relationships.

Proactive Approach

You’re someone who looks ahead, identifies potential issues and spots opportunities to improve before problems occur.

You won’t wait for something to go wrong before taking action.

Ownership & Initiative

You’re comfortable taking responsibility for EHS performance across your projects and working independently while remaining closely connected to the wider EHS and project teams.
