A gas-fired power station in east Galway was due to stop generating in 2028. Its owner is now putting it through a life extension programme to keep it running until 2033, and the project team doing that work needs someone to own its documents.
The contract is 12 months to start, but the extension runs to 2033 and the client has said this role could run for up to five years. That’s unusual for a document control contract, where you’re normally looking for the next one before you’ve settled into this one.
It’s a standard working week. No shift pattern.
You’ll be paid a day rate, and you can work through your own limited company, as a self-employed contractor, or on agency PAYE.
You’ll also be close to how the project actually runs. You report directly to the Project Manager, you sit in the design and weekly progress meetings, and you own the registers everyone else relies on.
You’ll set up and run the project’s electronic document management system, and keep it in order once contractors start sending things in. That covers the correspondence register, transmittals, drawing register and data room, plus the project risk register.
You’ll prepare packs for meetings and site visits, take minutes, chase actions, and help the PM keep core documents like the project management plan and traffic management plan current.
There’s general admin in here too: timesheets, leave, printing and binding. Better you hear that now.
The site is in rural Galway. You’ll need to drive, and either live within reach or be happy to stay locally during the week. Accommodation is still being confirmed, so ask me about it.
