Pivotal Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a Dublin-based construction project. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will oversee technical and design management, coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and third‑party stakeholders to deliver the programme on time.

You will apply a methodical approach, strong organisational and communication skills, and ensure buildability, quality, health and safety, and commercial objectives are met.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree-level qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• Experience in contracting/construction environments.
• Experience in design management and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Strong technical understanding of building construction and project delivery.
• Membership of a professional body is desirable.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager to join one of our client's construction teams on a project based in Dublin.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Design Manager will be responsible for the technical management of the building project, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, design teams and third-party stakeholders throughout project delivery.

The successful candidate will have a methodical and organised approach, strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills, with the ability to manage design requirements while considering health & safety, quality, programme and commercial objectives.

Role and Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the technical and design management of the building project.
• Report directly to and work closely with the Project Manager.
• Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams throughout project delivery.
• Liaise with architects, engineers, consultants, subcontractors and other third- party stakeholders.
• Coordinate design information to support the construction programme and successful project delivery.
• Monitor the design process and ensure required information is available in line with project deadlines.
• Review and coordinate technical and design information across relevant disciplines.
• Identify potential design and technical issues and work with the relevant teams to resolve them efficiently.
• Ensure effective communication between the design team and wider construction team.
• Attend and contribute to design, technical and project meetings.
• Monitor design activities against the agreed project programme.
• Support the Project Manager and site team with technical and design-related queries.
• Ensure design decisions consider buildability, quality, programme and commercial requirements.
• Promote and maintain high standards of health & safety and quality throughout the design process.
• Maintain clear communication and coordination between all relevant project stakeholders.
• Support the successful technical delivery of the project through to completion.

Requirements

• Relevant Degree-level qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• A number of years' relevant experience within a contracting/construction environment.
• Previous experience in design management and multidisciplinary team coordination.
• Experience working with design teams, consultants and other third-party stakeholders.
• Strong technical understanding of building construction and project delivery.
• Postgraduate qualifications would be advantageous.
• Membership of a relevant professional body, such as Engineers Ireland, is desirable.
• Strong organisational skills with a methodical approach to design and technical management.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work effectively to demanding project deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Good understanding of health & safety, quality and programme requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness and appreciation of commercial return.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the wider project team.
