Job summary

Pivotal Recruitment Limited in Galway seeks an experienced Design Coordinator to join one of our client's project teams. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Design Manager and Quantity Surveyor to coordinate design information across the construction process, ensuring it is coordinated, compliant, buildable and delivered on programme.

The role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, managing design deliverables, coordinating consultants and contractors, and mentoring document

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a Design Coordinator or similar construction design role.
  • Experience working within a main contractor environment is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualification in Construction, Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the production and delivery of design information across the project.
  • Coordinate consultants, contractors and other members of the Design Delivery Team.
  • Ensure designs comply with tender specifications, Employer's Requirements, legislation and regulations.
  • Review drawings, specifications, planning requirements and other technical documentation.
  • Ensure design solutions are buildable, commercially viable and within budget.
  • Manage design deliverables in line with the construction and procurement programmes.
  • Identify potential design delays, risks and issues and ensure they are addressed promptly.
  • Prepare, maintain and update key design documentation, including Design Programmes, Responsibility Matrices, Risk & Opportunity Schedules and Change Control Trackers.
  • Coordinate and gradually take responsibility for Design Team meetings and workshops, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out.
  • Produce documentation for regular Design Review Meetings and track outstanding actions.

Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Design Coordinator to join one of our client's project teams based in Galway.

Working closely with the Project Manager, Design Manager and Quantity Surveyor, the Design Coordinator will play a key role in the successful delivery of the project, managing and coordinating design information throughout the construction process.

The successful candidate will ensure design information is fully coordinated, compliant, buildable, within budget and delivered in line with the project programme.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate consultants, contractors and other members of the Design Delivery Team.

  • Manage design deliverables in line with the construction and procurement programmes.

  • Manage and mentor Project Document Controllers and ensure document- control procedures are followed.
  • Prepare, maintain and update key design documentation, including Design Programmes, Responsibility Matrices, Risk & Opportunity Schedules and Change Control Trackers.
  • Coordinate and gradually take responsibility for Design Team meetings and workshops, ensuring actions are recorded and closed out.
  • Produce documentation for regular Design Review Meetings and track outstanding actions.
  • Review drawings to ensure they are fully coordinated and suitable for For Construction status.
  • Maintain effective change control throughout all stages of the project.
  • Work closely with the BIM team to ensure consultants and contractors comply with Document Control and Management procedures.
  • Support BCAR handover, including coordination of required documentation and O&M Manuals.
  • Ensure Health & Safety risks are considered and reduced through the design process.
  • Prepare and manage the Design Close-Out Schedule, including outstanding design issues, planning conditions, Building Control, warranties, certification, as-built drawings and technical approvals.
  • Communicate regularly with senior consultants, clients and project stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Design Coordinator or similar construction design role.
  • Experience working within a main contractor environment is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualification in Construction, Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of the construction design and project delivery process.
  • Ability to review and coordinate technical drawings, specifications and design information.
  • Good understanding of planning, Building Control, BCAR and construction regulations.
  • Strong commercial awareness with an understanding of programme, cost and buildability.
  • Experience coordinating consultants, subcontractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Strong understanding of document control and change management procedures.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while knowing when issues require escalation to the Design Manager.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to drive actions through to completion.
