Job summary

Brighter Futures for Children is seeking a Deputy House Manager to support the leadership and management of a residential home for children. You will work with the House Manager to deliver high-quality, child-centred care in a trauma-informed environment.

The role requires a QQI Level 7 qualification or CORU registration, three years' experience with children in residential care, plus a year in a supervisory role. Garda Vetting, a driving licence and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have QQI Level 7 or CORU equivalent via registration path.
  • CORU registration or eligibility with relevant supervisory experience.
  • Minimum three years direct work with children in residential settings.
  • Minimum one year in a senior/supervisory role.
  • Knowledge of Children First, National Standards and Regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Full clean driving licence and Garda Vetting.

Responsibilities

Brighter Futures for Children is seeking a motivated, compassionate and experienced Deputy House Manager to join our residential childcare team. Working closely with the House Manager, the successful candidate will support the leadership and management of the home, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, child-centred and trauma-informed care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the House Manager in the day-to-day management of the home.
  • Lead and supervise staff to ensure the delivery of safe, consistent and nurturing care.
  • Act as Shift Leader and take responsibility for the effective operation of the home in the absence of the House Manager.
  • Support care planning, behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed at all times.
  • Contribute to staff supervision, mentoring, performance management and development.
  • Maintain positive relationships with children, families and professionals.
  • Support regulatory compliance and inspection readiness.
  • A minimum QQI Level 7 qualification in Social Care, Applied Social Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy, Counselling/Psychotherapy, Addiction Counselling, Youth and Community Work, Social Science/Social Studies, Family Support, Teaching (excluding TEFL), Nursing Studies, Disability Studies, Applied Behavioural Analysis, Early Years Care (where applicable), Applied Policing, Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service), or another recognised relevant qualification.
  • OR an individual entered onto the CORU Register of Social Care Workers who does not hold a recognised core or relevant qualification may be considered where they possess a minimum of three years full-time relevant work experience and can demonstrate management and/or supervisory qualifications, competencies and experience appropriate to the role.
  • Eligibility for CORU registration or current CORU registration where applicable.
  • Minimum three years’ experience working directly with children and young people in residential childcare or alternative care settings.
  • Minimum one year experience in a senior, supervisory, team leader or acting management role.
  • Knowledge of Child Care legislation, Children First, National Standards and Residential Centre Regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Full clean driving licence and successful Garda Vetting.
  • Leadership or management qualification relevant to residential childcare services.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification.
  • Experience of ACIMS inspections and quality assurance processes.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed and therapeutic models of care.
