Job summary

Cognizant is hiring a Senior Automation Engineer to support a multinational biotech client in Cork. You will design, configure, test, commission, troubleshoot, and perform change control on DCS systems with Foxboro, ensuring GDP/CSV alignment.

The role requires experience in Pharma/Biotech industries, DCS/PLC design, and strong leadership and communication skills to guide project delivery and validation efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Electrical or Bio-Process Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years' experience as an Automation/Control Systems/Software Engineer or related occupation.
• Experience designing, implementing and supporting automation solutions for Pharma/Biotech industries.
• Good knowledge of GAMP lifecycle and quality management processes in pharma.

Responsibilities

• Study functional requirements and control strategies for automation systems.
• Provide automation scopes and estimates for planning automation projects.
• Lead delivery of DCS projects from planning to design, implementation, testing and close-out.
• Lead teams to deliver project scopes and support project managers with schedules and stakeholder communications.
• Define testing requirements and supervise testing per procedures; prepare test cases.
• Maintain validated state of site control systems per Lilly quality standards.
• Design, build, configure and validate Foxboro DCS applications and software (Alarm Manager, FoxView Environments, Access Levels).
• Configure Pi Vision displays.

About the role:

We are looking to hire a Senior Automation Engineer to join the Automation Team supporting our Multinational Biotech Client based in Cork. The selected candidate will be involved in the design, configuration, implementation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting and change control for this client. The successful candidate would be required to have experience in the Pharmaceutical and/or Biotechnology sectors and must have previous DCS experience. GDP/CSV mindset is essential.

Responsibilities:

• Studying functional requirements and process control strategies for control systems.
• Provide automation scopes and estimates for planning automation projects
• Take a lead role in the delivery of DCS projects from planning through to design implementation testing and closeout
• Lead teams as required to deliver project scopes
• Support the Automation Projects Manager in maintenance and control of project schedules, resourcing and stakeholder communications
• To define the testing requirements and supervise the internal testing to the agreed procedures.
• Preparing test cases.
• Maintain the validated state of the site control systems in line with Lilly quality standards.
• To design, build, configure and validate DCS Foxboro platform.
• To be responsible for configuring different Foxboro DCS applications and software (Alarm Manager, FoxView Environments, Access Levels)
• Pi Vision displays configuration.

Requirements:

• Proven experience as an Automation Engineer with increased levels of responsibility.
• Experience designing, implementing and supporting automation solutions for clients in the Pharmaceutical and/or Biotechnology industries
• Good knowledge of GAMP lifecycle and quality management processes employed in the pharmaceutical sector
• Experience with DCS or PLC software design.
• Good analytical & problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Leadership abilities, works well in a team environment
• Requires a bachelor's degree equivalent in Chemical, Electrical or Bio-Process Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years' experience as an Automation Engineer/Control Systems Engineer or Software Engineer or related occupation
