Job summary

CareerWise Recruitment is seeking a Controls & Automation Engineer for our Dublin-based client, a leader in high-precision electro/ mechanical optical assemblies. The role focuses on electrical design, SOP creation, and hands-on tests of control hardware.

You will collaborate with mechanical, software, and optics teams to ensure seamless hardware integration across modules, with emphasis on wiring, assembly, and system verification in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Level 8 Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in controls, automation, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • SolidWorks Electrical: Practical experience using SolidWorks Electrical to produce schematic sets and panel layouts.
  • Hands-on wiring, testing, and troubleshooting of electro-mechanical hardware and instrumentation.
  • Author, implement and follow SOPs for assembly, testing, and system operation.
  • Experience with multi-axis motion control and drive configuration desirable
  • Background with PLCs, microcontrollers, or LabVIEW programming preferred
  • Exposure to vacuum control systems, temperature monitoring and high-precision sensors desirable

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Design & Schematics: Design, update, and manage complete 2D electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring harness drawings using SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Documentation & SOPs: Author clear SOPs for hardware assembly, testing, and maintenance; maintain system documentation and BOMs.
  • Instrumentation & Assembly: Hands-on wiring, component integration, and bench testing of controls hardware and sensors.
  • System Testing & Troubleshooting: Assist in physical system construction, debugging, and electrical fault-finding on complex machinery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with mechanical, software, and optics teams to ensure hardware integration across modules.

Job description

A Controls & Automation Engineer is required by CareerWise Recruitment to join our Dublin based client – an award-winning technology company developing very high precision electro/ mechanical optical assemblies. The Controls & Automation Engineer will join their hardware development team

ROLE
  • Electrical Design & Schematics: Design, update, and manage complete 2D electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring harness drawings using SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Documentation & SOPs: Author clear Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hardware assembly, testing, and maintenance. Maintain system documentation, wiring pinouts, interconnect diagrams, and Electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Instrumentation & Assembly: Hands-on wiring, component integration, and bench testing of controls hardware and sensors.
  • System Testing & Troubleshooting: Assist in physical system construction, experimental setups, debugging, and electrical fault-finding on complex machinery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical, software, and optics teams to ensure seamless hardware integration across all machine modules.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Level 8 Degree or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in controls, automation, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • SolidWorks Electrical: Practical experience using SolidWorks Electrical (or equivalent electrical CAD packages) to produce schematic sets and panel layouts.
  • Hands-on Integration: Proven track record in wiring, testing, and troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical hardware and instrumentation.
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Demonstrated ability to author, implement, and consistently follow structured SOPs for assembly, testing, and system operation.
  • Experience with multi-axis motion control and drive configuration desirable
  • Background with PLCs, microcontrollers, or LabVIEW programming preferred
  • Exposure to vacuum control systems, temperature monitoring, and high-precision sensors desirable
