Qualifications

• MB BCh BAO (or equivalent) is required.
• FRCS (Tr & Orth) or CSCST or equivalent higher specialist training qualification required.
• Fellowship training with orthopaedic surgery and acute trauma management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead elective and emergency orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements and complex trauma management.
• Manage specialist outpatient clinics and lead acute trauma call rosters as required by the department.
• Collaborate with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, radiology and nursing teams to optimize rehabilitation pathways.
• Lead governance, risk management, and service design initiatives aligned with national clinical programs.
• Mentor surgical registrars, NSHDs and medical students while engaging in research and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Surgical Leadership: Perform elective and emergency orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements, arthroscopic surgery, and complex trauma management.

• Outpatient & Emergency Care: Conduct specialist outpatient clinics and lead acute trauma call rosters as required by the department.

• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, radiology, and nursing teams to optimize patient rehabilitation pathways.

• Governance & Quality: Lead clinical audit, risk management, and service design initiatives to align with HSE national clinical programs.

• Education & Training: Mentor surgical registrars, NSHDs, and medical students while engaging in continuous research and professional development.

• Registration: Specialist Registration in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) or eligibility for immediate registration.

• Qualifications: MB BCh BAO (or equivalent), FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent higher specialist training qualification (CSCST).

• Experience: Comprehensive fellowship training and demonstrated expertise in orthopaedic surgery and acute trauma management.

• Skills: Strong clinical decision-making, surgical technical skill, and excellent communication abilities
