Job summary

RSA Group in Ireland is seeking a Commercial Underwriter to assess cases within our risk appetite, delivering underwriting decisions under senior guidance to support growth and retention. Qualifications

  • 3–5 years' experience in Insurance
  • Complete the annual CPD requirements as defined by the regulator and/or professional body
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with a commitment to delivering quality results
  • Experience within customer management and technical teams (coaching/guiding others)

Responsibilities

  • Review allocated cases and deliver underwriting decisions at the designated authority level to secure profitable business within the agreed risk appetite.
  • Identify non-standard or complex risks and refer to more qualified colleagues.
  • Support qualified colleagues in handling non-standard cases in line with established standards, procedures, and guidance.
  • Contribute to the production of new policy wordings or review existing policy wordings to ensure documentation is current and accurate.
  • Manage customer interactions efficiently, courteously, and timely to deliver high standards of customer satisfaction.
  • Comply with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.
  • Review new business cases where appropriate and deliver underwriting decisions following agreed processes.
  • Participate in project work as it arises and undertake other duties as reasonably required.

Job description

Commercial Underwriter

This role as a Commercial Underwriter will involve underwriting cases within agreed processes and risk appetite, and with senior direction & guidance, to achieve business development and retention targets.

You will spend most of your time delivering underwriting decisions, referring cases outside personal authority limits, supporting more qualified colleagues and contributing to policy wordings and managing customer interactions. You will be desk‑based working within a team and with other colleagues responsible for underwriting risks. You will have strong analytical, relationship management and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support qualified colleagues in handling non‑standard cases in line with established standards, procedures, and guidance.

Requirements
  • 3-5 years' experience in Insurance Industry
  • Complete the appropriate annual CPD requirements as defined by the Financial Regulator and/or the Professional Body to which you are affiliated (e.g. III, CII, CIPD, ACCA)
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines with a commitment to delivering quality results.
  • Experience within customer management and technical teams (that has involved coaching / guiding others)
Regulatory Requirements

If this role is defined as a "controlled function" by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that you meet the requirements as set out in the Fitness & Probity standards issued in this Act.
