PE Global is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager/Senior Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the commercial function for a growing portfolio of electrical projects in Cork.

The role is senior and influential, requiring strong electrical contracting experience and the ability to manage the full commercial lifecycle from tendering through final account. You will work with Directors and Project Managers to drive costs, margins and compliant reporting.

Qualifications

  • Degree or recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.
  • Previous experience working for an electrical contractor is essential.
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction projects, packages and associated costs.
  • Proven experience managing the commercial lifecycle of construction projects.
  • Strong QS background covering valuations, variations, cost reporting, subcontractor management and final accounts.
  • Experience with estimating, tendering and electrical project pricing.
  • Strong contractual and commercial awareness.
  • Ability to analyse project costs, margins, forecasts and commercial risk.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work closely with both senior management and project delivery teams.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating/QS software.

Commercial Manager – Electrical Contracting

A leading electrical contractor based in Cork is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager/Senior QS to take ownership of the commercial function across a growing portfolio of electrical projects.

This is a senior and influential position within the business, suited to a qualified Quantity Surveyor with strong electrical contracting experience who is capable of managing the full commercial lifecycle of projects while also supporting estimating, tendering and future business growth.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Directors, Project Managers and wider delivery team and will have responsibility for ensuring projects are commercially controlled from initial tender and pre-construction through procurement, delivery and final account.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Quantity Surveying
  • Take overall responsibility for the commercial management of electrical projects from award through to final account.
  • Manage project budgets, cost plans, forecasts and cash flow.
  • Prepare and manage interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Manage variations, change orders and associated commercial negotiations.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project costs against budgets and provide accurate cost-to-complete forecasting.
  • Prepare regular commercial reports for senior management.
  • Ensure contractual notices, records and supporting commercial documentation are maintained.
  • Review contracts and identify key commercial and contractual obligations prior to project commencement.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with clients, main contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, including procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts.
  • Drive timely agreement and closure of project final accounts.
  • Support and oversee the estimating and tendering process for new electrical projects.
  • Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications and bills of quantities.
  • Prepare and/or review detailed electrical cost estimates.
  • Carry out quantity take-offs and pricing exercises.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive quotations.
  • Analyse labour, material, plant and subcontractor costs.
  • Assist with tender adjudications and commercial reviews prior to submission.
  • Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative commercial solutions.
  • Support the Directors in evaluating new project opportunities from both a risk and commercial perspective.
  • Assist with the transition of successful tenders from estimating into project delivery.
  • Take ownership of commercial processes, procedures and reporting across the business.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure strong financial and commercial control of each project.
  • Provide commercial guidance to operational teams throughout project delivery.
  • Establish clear project budgets and commercial targets at project commencement.
  • Monitor project margins and take proactive action where commercial performance is below expectations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, main contractors and supply-chain partners.
  • Support the continued growth of the company by ensuring robust commercial controls are maintained as the project portfolio expands.
  • Provide commercial input directly to company Directors and senior management.
Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will be a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor with significant experience working within the electrical contracting sector.
