Job summary

MongoDB is expanding the Storage Layer Services team to re-architect the cloud storage stack for Atlas. You will define SLOs, shape capacity plans, and help ensure durability and safe operations of the storage layer.

The role invites collaboration across senior engineers as a founding member during a multi-year cloud storage roadmap. This position can be based in Dublin, Cork, or remotely in Ireland, with on-call rotation and a strong bias toward software-driven automation to reduce toil while

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in software development and operating distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Go.
• Experience with stateful storage or database systems at scale; comfortable with durability and recovery trade-offs.
• Customer-focused mindset and bias toward automation.
• Experience with containerization technologies, especially Kubernetes.
• Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Understanding of Linux internals and networking (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS).

Responsibilities

• Work on multi-tenant distributed storage systems balancing long-term goals with immediate engineering needs.
• Build for reliability; ensure services are available, fault-tolerant, self-healing.
• Identify and configure metrics to detect incidents and quantify service health, availability, and performance.
• Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to resolve incidents involving the storage infrastructure.
• Become an expert in infrastructure performance from application to kernel.
